Deputy Principal

Mr Daniel Lapolla

As we come to the conclusion of another busy term, I take this opportunity to wish everyone within our community a safe and relaxing term break. I hope the holidays are a renewing experience and our boys return reenergised for the final term of the year. Please see below some significant points pertaining to the end of year.

Year 10s

At the commencement of Term 4, our Year 10 cohort will have four weeks of normal scheduled routine before entering the examinationn period. Preparation and planning should have already commenced to support the examination process. I encourage students to utilise this time efficiently especially in terms of seeking feedback from teachers about any areas of concern.

Below is a short outline of the previously communicated end of year events. An opportunity for parental engagement on the 9 November at the College to acknowledge our Year 10 cohort is of particular note. Celebrating and acknowledging all students is of importance to the college as we move towards a Year 7 to 12 College in 2024.

Lockers

Over the holiday break all unlocked lockers will be secured, due to wind, weather and unexpected visitors opening doors. Boys should have lockers safely secured with their lock at all times. All students will require to have a lock, please purchase one form the uniform shop if one is required.

iPads: Year 7 - 9

Due to an unexpected series of updates within our systems all iPads will need to be collected at the end of this year to continue with further infrastructure upgrades. It is a timely reminder in terms of damage and repair. Please liaise with IT services regarding any replacement or repair requirements prior to the end of the year.

Key Messages from the New Aussie Tottenham Coach

I just want to be who I am”

“Never be proud about doing the right thing, just do it”

“There are many life lessons about how we conduct ourselves”

Many students and I have a clear passion for the English Premier League, often sharing of scores and discussing the games during recess and lunch. There has been much said about one of our own Ange Postecoglou who is having much success at the moment with Tottenham. However, what the English Press are learning is more about Ange the man and person, which has influenced his coaching philosophy and success on the pitch.

The above three quotes stood out to me in highlighting what he stands for and what he prides himself on. These three aspects which are significant in how we approach school life and all of its expectations. Far too often do we see boys focused on impressing or wanting to live up to the expectations of others instead of focusing on themselves and their own needs and interests. Doing the right thing without expecting praise, simply because its the right thing to do. We know full well that is right and just and how we should engage with those around us. And lastly, forming our behaviour relies on learning from our actions and comments and progressing forward. As Ange states the life lessons which are associated with this process do not ever leave us.

All of these messages are significant as we strive to impart the Virgilian Way in forming our young men.
