From the Principal
Hello everyone and welcome to the first edition of our newsletter for Term 4.
I cannot believe that it is already Term 4 and we are beginning to think about 2024! As is the norm here at OGPS we have movement of staff - with some staff leaving to pursue new opportunities. Whilst we will miss having them here with us we are also excited by the opportunities that provides us to have new teachers here with us. I will share who is leaving and joining us closer to the end of term.
Our 2024 Foundation students also came to visit us this week. It was so exciting to have them here with us. There are lots of new faces and families joining us, as well as existing families, with children who are very confident in knowing the school! We cannot wait to have them visit a few more times on a Friday afternoon before joining in our whole school transition dates.
We are also beginning to think about our 2024 classes, which might sound early but we take time and effort to make sure these are as balanced as can be in many different ways. Our first school transition date is 24th of November, so we need to start early to have classes hopefully in place for this session. We do accept parent requests - as long as they are on educational grounds. These requests are overseen by the principal team rather than classroom teachers, as this allows us to ensure all requests are received and treated fairly and equitably. Please forward all requests to a member of the principal team - either directly or via the office. Email or written requests are accepted with a cut of date for requests being the 10th of November 2023.
Our SWPS program launched last Friday and our students earned 3500 tokens in week 1! There will be a free dress day when they get to 5000, so with the way we are tracking that will be week 3! If you haven't already please have a chat with your children about the program - they are all amazing at explaining the elements of the program and how they achieve the tokens. For more information check the Well Being news tab in this newsletter.
Finally - the Fiesta is this Friday! A huge thank you to the group of parent volunteers who are the organising committee - the work they are putting in is fantastic and the event would not be taking place without them. Thank you also to everyone who has put themselves forward to spend time on a stall - we really appreciate the support in making the event a fun and exciting event for our students and the community, whilst raising money for the school. I cannot wait to see you all there.
