Dear Families,
What an exciting and action packed 2 weeks it has been. Last Friday's assembly was a special highlight, it really was magical watching all our students perform I am Australian in Auslan for Harmony Day. It was a wonderful way to highlight a significant day and all that it stands for.
Our Year 3-6 Athletics carnival went very smoothly, and I was incredibly proud of the persistence and team spirit of all our students. We thank Mr Pannam for his hard work and organisation to ensure the day ran smoothly. We also thank our wonderful staff and parent volunteers; we couldn't do it without you.
Year 3/4 Swimming has had a very successful start at Starfish Swim School, and I am very proud to report that the owners commented today that we have displayed excellent behaviour and organisation. Thank you to our parent volunteers for helping the teachers - it is very much appreciated.
We are fortunate to have two pre-service teachers start at OPS. They are from Deakin University on Bachelor Of Education 3rd Year Pre-Service Placements between 17/03/2025 and 28/03/2025. Daina will be in 6D with Amelia and Jade will be in FS with Kirsty.
Feedback
As we are coming to the end of term we would love your feedback. Next week we will be sending a brief survey via Compass, we would greatly appreciate your feedback so we can continue our improvement journey.

Once again, we have an OPS superstar!
Raphael S (Year 6) was recently awarded the under 12s Champion status in his Lifesaving Club’s championships. Raphael won his age group’s open water swim, surfboard race, beach sprint, and flags. He showed great resilience battling the waves and making it through the surf while competing against children his own age and older. Go Raphael!
We are so proud of the Year 1 and Year 2 students who participated in a chess tournament on Monday 17 March at Whitehorse Primary School! They represented Ormond Primary School with incredible sportsmanship and excellent behaviour, and it was wonderful to see so many parents there to show their support.
While the day got off to a bit of a rocky start from an organisation perspective, everything ran smoothly in the end. A special thanks to Angus D’s mum, Tess, for helping keep everyone calm and organised!
Our students played 7 challenging games, often facing opponents from older grades. Despite a tough start, they kept their spirits high and secured a few well-deserved victories along the way. We’re thrilled to share that, despite being up against larger teams with more players, our students finished 11th out of 16! Their hard work and perseverance are truly commendable, and we want to celebrate their fantastic effort. Well done team!
Karin, a former OPS student from 40 years ago, organised a reunion for alumni, and on Sunday, March 16, it finally happened! A small group of past students and some parents gathered for the event. The idea had been talked about for years, but it took a while to come together. It was so exciting to see some former teachers and share memories of their time at Ormond Primary School, celebrating the amazing community they all shared. Lifelong friendships were formed back then - not just among the students, but between their families too.
The afternoon was a huge success, with many people saying we shouldn’t wait so long for the next one and suggesting we make it an annual tradition!
