Maths
In Maths, Grade 5 students have been building their confidence as they prepare for NAPLAN in Week 8. Our focus has been on strengthening core skills in addition, subtraction, and number patterns through practise equations and worded questions and problem-solving tasks. Students have enjoyed using Mathletics, an online platform that helps target individual learning needs and highlight any gaps in their understanding. It has been fantastic to see their hard work and positive attitude as they take on new challenges and develop their mathematical thinking.
Reading
During week 6 and 7 we are familiarising ourselves with the structure of NAPLAN questions on the reading test. This has involved a mixture of paper and online tests.
Writing
Students have continued consolidating their Narrative writing skills. They had an opportunity to work with Dr. Misty Adoniou. The focus of this session was to understand how vocabulary is used to express greater precision of meaning. Students participated in a transformation activity using a passage from our mentor text - The War Horse. Transformations were done by rearranging or modifying a sentence from the perspective of students' animal of choice. Misty was blown away by the creativity in the room!
NAPLAN
We would appreciate it if you could remind your children, they need to bring their laptops with a fully charged laptop.
Cooking
Over the fortnight, 5A and 5B had their first cooking lesson for the year. 5C will have theirs next week. They learnt to make Rice Paper Rolls. Students were all smiles in the kitchen helping each other along. At the end of the lesson, they had a little picnic by the mounds, relishing the delicious rolls they had made!
