Ethiopian Dancers Bring Energy to Northcote High
At lunchtime on Friday, we celebrated Cultural Diversity Week with multiple events at lunch time. The theatre had screenings of International Short Films run by our Performing Arts Leaders. C-block was buzzing with sand paintings, origami and mindful colouring of intricate Indigenous Artist designs. This was overseen by a collaboration of our International and Visual Arts leaders.
The Northcote High School hall turned into a dance floor as two Ethiopian dancers led an incredible session with students. At first, only a few joined in, but as the music and energy grew, more and more people stepped up, and by the end, the entire hall was filled.
After all the dancing, we sat down with the performers to hear about their journey and experiences in Melbourne. Their stories were just as inspiring as their moves, making for a memorable and uplifting lunchtime.
As a school we raised $648 for The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. We hope everyone learnt a lot through our messages at assemblies and our connect lesson about International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
