Yr 10 Personal Training class
On Thursday the 13th of March, the Yr 10 Personal Training class went to Charge CrossFit. On this excursion, the class participated in a 1-hour workout split into 3 sections.
The first section of the workout focused on stretching and holding certain exercises such as squats and lunges. For the second section of the workout, the class split up in groups of 2-3 to do a mix of barbell squats and pull ups. Finally, we completed a high intensity workout with 4 stations, sit-ups, burpees, riding a bike, and rowing. The aim was to do 30 seconds at maximum intensity, then move onto the next station with a 15 second brake, aiming to do all 4 stations 4 times. After the third workout, we completed 5 minutes of cooldown stretches.
It was a great session where we learnt a new way of working out and had a chance to become familiar with equipment we have never used before. I would definitely recommend this experience with Charge CrossFit to anybody who was interested!

On Friday the 21st of March, our class had the opportunity to take part in a nature therapy session, and it was a very calming and rejuvenating experience. We were surrounded by the peaceful sounds of birds and rustling leaves, where our instructor guided us through a series of mindfulness exercises and deep breathing techniques. The session was a welcome break from the typical classroom environment, allowing us to disconnect from our daily stresses and reconnect with the natural world around us.
The fresh air and serene surroundings helped clear our minds and promote a sense of inner calm. It was incredible how such a simple activity could have such a positive impact on our mood and overall well-being. I left the session feeling more relaxed, focused, and cantered. It was a refreshing reminder of the importance of taking time for ourselves.

Congratulations to all of our swimmers who recently competed in the Division Swimming Carnival on March 4. We had around 60 students attend the carnival which was hosted by NHS. It was a great day, with many of our students qualifying for Regionals which is later this week. We would like to thank our staff and our many student helpers who assisted in helping the day run so smoothly. We are lucky to have students who are willing to lend us a hand with timing events in between competing themselves. Well done to all who qualified for the next round, we look forward to cheering you on at the Regionals.
On Friday the 21st of March, the Year 8 girls' and boys' mixed volleyball teams went to Reservoir High School for the interschool sports tournament. It was a really fun and exciting day, and everyone played really well. Both the A and B girls' teams did an amazing job, with both coming third overall! There was so much support from teammates, with everyone cheering each other on and celebrating every point. The atmosphere was great, and it was awesome to see so much team spirit.

On Thursday the 6th of March, NHS Volleyball proudly sent 4 teams to the Volleyball Victoria Beach Schools Cup for the first time. We had one Yr 10 boys' team and three Yr 10 girls' teams.
As it was our first time ever playing on sand, adjusting was extremely difficult and tiring. Despite the challenges, each team played incredibly well, with all teams winning at least one match for the day.
Maria, Heidi, Elida and Astrid were our strongest performers on the day, reaching the quarter final after some dominant performances. Unfortunately, they were unable to beat the eventual runners-up in a very tight third set.
All students should be very proud of their efforts, and we can’t wait to send more teams to the beach next year!
On Monday the 24th of March we got to the tennis courts at oak park tennis club all pumped up; we really wanted to go far. We had a bye in the first round, which gave us some time to settle in and warm-up before we got on court. Our first opponent was William Ruthven; we managed to beat them comfortably, winning all our matches 4-0. After that, we only had to win one more match to make it to the grand final. That match was against Lalor, and we also managed to beat them 6 sets to 0 sets, but the matches were a lot closer. Credit goes to Harry for winning 4-3 against a strong player! There was only one more team to beat - Preston High - and we managed to win 4 sets to 2, winning both of the doubles to seal our place in the regionals. We had a really fun day, and I would like to say a special thankyou to Ms. Dridan and Mr. Price for making the day possible.
On Monday, the year eight girls team played singles and doubles matches against three other schools. In the morning, we played William Ruthven Secondary College, who we lost to, and then Thornbury High School, who we beat. We came second in our pool and narrowly beat St. Johns. This put us in third place overall. They were fun and fair matches, and everyone had a great day. Thank you to Ms. Dridan and Mr. Price for facilitating the event.

The middle years' tennis regional tournament in Oak Park showcased matches filled with passion and fun. The boys played 3 rounds of matches in total, eventually placing third in the ladder and narrowly missing out on the next round. The girls also played in three rounds and maintained great stamina, ending the day with a win! The day highlighted some great performances. A special shout out to the athletes for their efforts at Oak Park Tennis Club.
On Monday the 3rd of March, we headed off to JC Donath Reserve to play a round robin tournament against other schools for year 7 boys division cricket. We got off to a good start, winning our first game of the day against North Lalor, defeating them by 54 runs. Highlights from the game include great running between the wickets by Noah as he scored 14 runs, 2 catches by Chris, and excellent bowling by Otis. We continued our great start by beating Lalor by 28 runs in our second game. Other highlights included 3 wickets in 1 over by Matthew, a wicket maiden for Tom and a solid 14 runs for Flynn. In our final game against Thornbury, we needed a win to progress to the next round. The boys batted first and gave it a good go with some great hitting by Tom but unfortunately, we lost by 10 wickets. Congratulations to the boys for giving it their all on the day. We look forward to them succeeding next year.

The Year 8 Girls' Cricket Team put on an outstanding performance on Monday, showcasing great skill, teamwork, and true Northcote High spirit. They played with enthusiasm, supporting and encouraging each other throughout the day. Their determination and positive attitude helped them to reach the final game, where they came incredibly close to progressing to the next round. Although they narrowly fell short against Thornbury, they should be proud of their efforts and the way they represented the school. Most importantly, they had a fantastic time, making it a day to remember!
On Tuesday the 18th of March we headed to JC Donath Reserve in Reservoir for interschool sport. In our first game, we played against Preston. We batted first and Lucian opened with 20 runs under his name. In the end we had about 50 runs after the 10 overs. Oscar sharp and Arul opened the bowling and took 3 wickets and a runout in their 2 overs each. We ended up winning, but it was close, coming down to the last over.
In the second game we were up against Thornbury, Harry and Lucian opened the batting and put a 75-run partnership with harry on 31 and Lucian on 25 plus the extras they bowled. We ended up making 80 runs after 10 overs. We won easily with Arul bowling great again!
In our last game against Reservoir, we batted first again and Rueben and Alessio opened with a great partnership of 50. Rueben retired along with Alessio! We ended up making 90 runs after 10 overs which is very good. We won very easily with everybody bowling great getting wickets.
