2025 is now well under way and the leaders of our school have well and truly settled into their new roles. All Grade Six students have taken on roles as leaders this year, but we congratulate Shailla, Mckenzie and Matilda who have taken extra responsibilities this term as school captains. We also congratulate our sports captains – Cadel, Henry, Finn, Shailla, Charlotte and Christopher.
The structure of our lessons has changed with the implementation of ‘Magnify Sandhurst’, and the students have adjusted to this new learning with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
In our English we have nearly finished our first novel, ‘A Ghost In My Suitcase’, around which our grammar and writing is based. We are writing a persuasive text – ‘Understanding Family History is Important’ and we have learnt some important facts about this based on research. We are also enjoying typing lessons on our new tablets.
In Maths following a unit on Data Representation, we are now working on operations. We have found that if we know our tables well, it really helps with solving equations that have more than one operation. Our Maths sessions are quite fast paced, with the children answering many questions on whiteboards as we work through the lessons. They enjoy this challenge most of the time!
Camp has been a highlight this term. The Melbourne experience was amazing, and the behaviour and participation of the students was excellent. The DOXA Youth Foundation do a wonderful job showing the country kids (and teachers) around the city – it was an unforgettable experience.
We have completed our first Religious Education unit on Prayer where we explored the Jewish faith and reflected on various types of prayer. Last week we began our unit leading up to Easter entitled ’How Lent Can Transform Our Lives.’ In this unit we will reflect on how difficult life experiences can be transforming and grow to understand how Jesus offers hope and meaning in our lives through the events at Easter.
In Civics and Citizenship, we have been looking at the different levels of government in Australia. We are also learning about what migration is and who migrated to Australia. We have found that Australia’s multiculturalism is important to its economic and social development.
Please feel to contact us if you have any questions at any time. Your children are a credit to you, and they are a pleasure to teach.
