North West Touch Trials
A group of 10 Glen Innes High School athletes travelled to Tamworth on Friday to participate in the North West Touch Trials for the Under 15's Boys and Girls teams.
Pat, Rocco and Ethan played in the New England Zone team and really stood out. All boys played well and were successful in making possibles and probables (P&Ps). The P&Ps were very competitive as there were a lot of boys trialing who had plenty of skill and speed. Pat, Rocco and Ethan were once again noticed by selectors in this segment of the trials and went on to be picked in the North West team – Congratulations!
Polly, Paige, Aila, Brooklyn, Skye, Billie and Mylie also represented the New England Zone in the girls team and trialed well. The New England Team was by far the best squad there on the day and dominated in games. It was great to see the level of touch played by our Glen Innes girls and the extra effort they have put into their touch football development is really paying off. Congratulations to Mylie, Polly, Paige, Brooklyn, Aila and Skye for their selection in the North West team.
Zone Open Boys Basketball Trials
Many thanks to Navina Honey and other staff from New England High Schools who ran the Zone Open Boys Basketball Trials here in Glen Innes on Thursday 27 February. A squad of GIHS open boys basketballers competed as well as many other participants, all eager to gain a spot in this representative team. After a series of games a zone team was decided upon with Jayden McIntyre, Brendan Landsborough and Riley Lighfoot all successful in selection – Congratulations. They now travel to Tamworth next Tuesday for the North West Trials.
Well done to all the participants and organisers.
North West Basketball Trials
Congratulations to both Riley and Jayden who traveled to Tamworth Tuesday 4 March, for the North West Basketball Trials. Both of these GIHS athletes played in the New England Zone team and trialed well. Both boys were noticed by selectors and were shortlisted to the possibles and probables.
Riley was named a reserve in the North West team which is a wonderful achievement given the standard of basketball played in Tamworth yesterday. I'm sure both Jayden and Riley will have their sights set high on selection in this NW team again next year when they are the most senior players there, in what will be their last year of High School.
