Principal's Report
Dear School Community,
As we approach the later part of another busy term, I would like to take a moment to update you on several key events and initiatives happening at our school.
Progress Reports & Parent-Teacher Interviews
Progress reports for Year 7 and Year 11 students have been sent out today. These reports provide an important overview of student performance in these transition years and areas for improvement. Following these reports, we will be holding whole-school Parent-Teacher Interviews on the 2nd of April. This is an excellent opportunity for parents and caregivers to discuss their child’s progress with teachers. We encourage all families to take advantage of this chance for meaningful communication about student growth.
Sporting Activities
Sport continues to be a major focus at our school, with a variety of teams competing throughout the term. While we are proud of the effort and enthusiasm shown by our students, it is unfortunate that some major fixtures and events were impacted by the recent cyclone and the associated weather conditions in our region. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate these challenges.
Winter Uniform Reminder
As we move into the colder months, please remember that students are required to be in full winter uniform. This includes the appropriate jacket, jumper, and trousers or skirt, as per the school’s uniform policy. If you require any assistance in obtaining winter uniform items, please contact the school office, and we will be happy to help.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN testing has been taking place this week for our students in Years 7, and 9. For those students who were absent, we will be providing catch-up sessions to ensure everyone has the opportunity to complete the assessments. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school if you have any concerns about this.
Science and Engineering Challenge
On Friday, 32 keen Stage 5 students travelled to the Regional Science and Engineering Challenge in Inverell. All students worked to an exceptional standard and came away with the highest point score of the day, achieving 1397 out of 1600 points. This impressive result means that GIHS now has a chance of attending the State Finals. We eagerly await the other zones' point scores to see if we are one of the top teams in the state. A huge congratulations to all involved for their hard work and dedication!
Notices About Absences
We kindly remind parents and caregivers that if your child is late to school, or absent for any reason, it is important to explain the absence in a timely manner. You can do this by using the Parent Portal (instructions provided in the newsletter) or by simply responding to the text message you may receive regarding the absence. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring accurate records for all students.
Behaviour Management Support Plan Consultation
We would like to extend a warm invitation to all members of our school community to attend the Behaviour Management and Support Plan Consultation meeting. This meeting will be held in the PAC on Thursday, 20th of March. We value the input of our community and look forward to your participation. Full details are available in the newsletter and on our school’s Facebook page.
A Special Thank You
Lastly, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of our dedicated staff, students, and the wider school community for their continued support. Together, we continue to create an environment where all students can thrive, learn, and grow.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to our school.
Warm regards,
Helen Millar
