Head of Secondary Years' Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Hazel Glen College,

As we approach the close of another school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the end of another school year. It was certainly a nice end the year with some special events in the final two weeks. We had all of the current Year 6 to 9 students participate in the College Wide transition day on Tuesday 10th December. We also had our Grade 6 celebration evening and Secondary Years awards night. On Wednesday 18th December our Year 6 students attended the swimming carnival with the Year 4's and 5's and the Year 7 and 8 students celebrated the ending of the year with a funfilled day at Funfields.

On Thursday 12th December, 128 of our Year 12 students received their ATAR. There were some wonderful results and we are very proud to announce that our Dux for 2024 was Sophie Y with an ATAR of 97.7. Well done to the Class of 2024, we wish those of you who have applied for university all the very best as you await the first round offers. We look forward to formally acknowleding and celebrating these results at the honours evening early next year.

This year has been one of change, where our new structures of the Primary Years and Secondary Years were formed. I am personally grateful to our remarkable teachers, support staff and leadership team who have supported the change of structures and made it an easier transition for our students.

Our staff are amazing,  whether in the classroom or in extracurricular activities, they always go above and beyond to create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

To our parents and families, thank you for your support. Your involvement in school activities, your encouragement of your children's education, and your partnership with us play an integral role in supporting the strength of our school community.

For those staff and students who are leaving Hazel Glen at the end of the year, we thank you for your contribution to our college community and wish you well on the next stage of your journey.

As we enjoy the summer break, I encourage each of you to take time to rest, recharge, and reflect. We will return next year ready to embrace new adventures and continue building on the foundation we have laid. There are already so many exciting and rewarding opportunities planned for our students.

Wishing you all a restful summer, and I look forward to seeing all students back for the first day of classes on the 30th January 2025.

Warm regards,

Sonia Goodacre
