Foundation News

We are coming to the last week of school and we are so excited to see how far our students have come, we are so incredibly proud of them.

Special Events

This term, we have been so lucky to be able to participate in exciting events! The Foundation classes especially LOVED their very first excursion to a farm!

Students were able to feed ducks, ride ponies, milk a cow, and cuddle with baby animals in the petting zoo. They had an absolute blast!

English

In English, we have begun to learn the ‘complex code’. Students have learnt the sounds /oo/, /ar/, /or/, /oy/, /er/, and /ou/. They are beginning to read and write words including these sounds and we are so proud. Students have also been practising retelling stories, ensuring they include a character, setting, problem, and ending, Ove this term, we have continued to practise and improve our fine motor skills through handwriting and crafts.

Literature and Core Knowledge

Over the past couple of weeks, we have continued to learn about our world. The students have loved exploring the different continents and creating displays and crafts related to different cultures and counties.

This week, we have begun a new Literature unit, and we are reading the texts ‘The Very Cranky Bear’ and ‘The Very Sleepy Bear’. Our classes have really enjoyed learning about alliteration in the text and have begun to create their own sentences employing this new skill. Students have also had an opportunity to compare the two texts using Venn Diagrams and make crafts related to the story

Maths

In Maths, our students have done an incredible job this year exploring numbers and developing their critical and creative thinking. Therefore, we have begun exploring the Year One standard of addition and subtraction and students are developing their number sense through number lines, number bonds, games, and part-part-whole mathematical models.
