From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents,

Across Australia, this week we celebrate Reconciliation Week. The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will and must continue.

Fire Carrier

Last Friday our FIRE CARRIER leaders (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education) were commissioned at the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry. Isabella and Austin have written about the experience later in this newsletter. We are very proud to be part of this program that aims to raise awareness and promote reconciliation throughout our school and the community. The ‘flame’ that we were presented with as a FIRE Carrier school is on display in the office.

OSHC AGM

Our OSHC program is an invaluable part of our school providing essential care for students and supporting families. We are so fortunate to have such a unique program that is an incorporated body run by a Committee of Management made up of parents. We need the help and support of the families who are part of OSHC, to consider attending the AGM and joining the Committee. We are required by law to have a committee to work with Carmel, Nadia and the team, so please consider offering your time and talents to ensure our service can continue to run.

We are so grateful to those who have been and continue to support the service.

The AGM details can be found on the OSHC page and I encourage you to attend.

Illness

There is an increasing number of coughs, colds, viruses and COVID cases in the community and we are seeing this in the school. If your child is unwell please keep them at home to minimise the spread of these viruses and let us know via email, phone call or the Audiri app.

Feast of the Sacred Heart Mass

We warmly welcome families to join us next Friday 7th June at 9:30am, Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart. As is our new practice, parents and families attending are welcome to sit with their child and the class.

As a school community we are not collecting donations for the Feast of the Sacred Heart. If families would like to do so, please visit the websites of Good Samaritan Inn or St Vincent de Paul and donate directly.

'Something to Think About'

This picture story book, “Sorry Day” by Coral Vass is a lovely way to share a message of Reconciliation with children
