The year 12 students have continued their fine start to the year, across the Vocational Major (VM) subjects, VET studies, Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) and school excursions.
All students are now fully immersed in their learning programs and have been consistently showing a high degree of effort, application and maturity towards the classroom tasks and Learning Outcomes. Each day, we see positive examples of students demonstrating intrinsic motivation towards their studies.
Attendance at school has been very good, and we encourage all students to maintain a consistent attendance at school. Being at school every day builds connections and confidence, it helps to remain up to date with learning, and also builds resilience.
Across two sessions, the year 12 students completed a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course, in the city. These sessions took place on the 30th of April for 12 A, and the 7th of May for 12 B. I commend the students for completing these sessions in a mature and focused manner. An RSA course enables students to build their resume’s, offers another alternative for future employment, as well as personal life skills. The excursion also provided an opportunity for students to be independent, through the transportation arrangements on public transport.
All students are encouraged to remain focused over the second half of the year, as they work towards successfully graduating from Year 12.
I would like to thank all year 12 teachers, and educational support staff for their professional time and effort throughout the term.
Year 11 Students have had a successful and engaging term 2.
Students have been able to stay focused in class and engage in social cohesion activities throughout the term. They have been able to work diligently to complete their studies throughout the term and ensure Peter Lalor secondary College has been a safe and happy environment for every individual.
Students also took part in a number of activities to help support IDAHOBIT day and Reconciliation week, these activities demonstrated the social connectedness and respect amongst the staff and students within the college.
Year 10 students have been actively engaged in all components of the curriculum this term. They started the term off with a visit to Mainfreight in Epping where they were given a tour of the workplace facilities including the transport section and were presented with information relating to expectations of employees, relevant OHS requirements and desired employability skills in the industry.
The cohort has also attended further sessions at the Whittlesea Technical School where they were presented with creative problem-solving challenges, collaborative teamwork projects and the opportunity to record their podcast on a product or issue of their choice.
Back at the College, students have continued to expand their food safety and hygiene practices as well as culinary skills through the fortnightly cooking program. Some of the successful dishes that students were able to create included:
All of which incorporated basic methods such as simmering, boiling, baking and roasting.
Students have also had the opportunity to learn and explore their individual creative talents in art in the form of:
We wish all students a safe and restful break and look forward to the second half of the year ahead.
