Specialist Happenings

Performing Arts

Music has been the focus for our level 3 students this semester, and while term 1 saw them exploring improvisation and small group composition, this term things have taken a more technical turn with a focus on notation.

Students have been learning to read and write, not with letters, but with musical notes, grouping them into measures and phrases using the 4/4 time signature (4 beats to a measure, four measures to a phrase).

Who knew there was so much literacy and numeracy involved in music!?

Fabulous Art!

Here are some ‘groovy’ creations by Level 5 students called ‘Retro 60’s and 70’s’ which encouraged students to connect with past artistic styles. Students looked at images from the 60’s and 70’s including fashion, craft and lettering styles. Inspirations were gained from collecting family photos from these eras, recycling some original ‘Golden Hands’ craft books from the 70’s, old wallpaper books, textiles and other recycled craft pieces and gathering pictures following their interests. They created their own collage piece with a design focus on careful placement, perspective and layering. You will see these delightful artworks on display in our art show called ‘Connections’ on October 23rd.

Wonderful effort.

Mandarin

Our Grade 6 students have been delving into the fascinating world of nationalities and languages. They have learned about various countries, the languages spoken there, and how to convey this information in Mandarin.

Using this newfound knowledge, students have crafted written self-introductions for fictional characters. These introductions include details such as the character's birthday, nationality, languages they speak, and languages they do not speak. This exercise not only enhances their writing skills but also broadens their understanding of global cultures.

Physical Education

Kicking has been the recent focus for the junior levels, starting with stationary kicking, dribbling and passing. Students have learnt about focusing on the ball, foot placement, making a bent knee in the preparation phase of the kick and following through.  The junior school will now be working on throwing - starting with underarm throwing, then moving to overarm throwing. The senior school continues to practice the various athletic events, including shotput, discus, triple jump and hurdles. Athletic lessons will continue until the end of term.

Win a PE prize! The first student to say "SEPS Rocks" to Mr Richardson or Mrs Foster will be crowned "PE teacher for a lesson" for their class.

District Country Event - Wednesday 15th May

On Wednesday our District Cross Country team represented SEPS at Dendy Park. The weather was perfect with the sunshine adding to the excitement of the runners. Our school had 72 enthusiastic runners who all tried their very best when completing the 2km and 3km course. Seeing all SEPS students cheering on and demonstrating fantastic support and sportsmanship for every runner was great.

Congratulations to  Holly D, Isla C, Ruby B, Sam H, Charlie H, Roman I and Pippa M who finished in the top 10 and have now qualified for the upcoming division event at Karkarook Park, Heatherton this Thursday 23rd May. We wish them all the best next week as they represent SEPS and the Seaside District.

We also extend our gratitude to our staff and parent helpers who attended on the day.

Congratulations again to all involved in our District Cross Country team.

Interschool Sport

There are still a number of sports who require parent helpers in order to adhere to supervision ratios. If we do not have the correct supervision, we are unable to the leave school grounds and would have to forfeit the round. If you are able to attend, please let your child's sports coach know.  We understand this is a big ask, due to work and family commitments, so thank you on advance for your help.
