Principals Newsletter Report – Friday 23 May 2024

Another busy fortnight has just rolled through with lots of great learning and extracurricular activities taking place.

Congratulations Mr. Young

Congratulations to Mr. Young who last Sunday received acknowledgement from the department of education for 40 years of service teaching students at several different schools. Mr Young is a valued a vibrant member of our teaching team and we also extend our congratulations to him on this achievement.

Education Support Staff

It was Educational Support Staff Day on Thursday 16 May.

Our ES staff are a valued part of our college community and take enormous pride in the work that they do and the role they play in improving student outcomes and engagement.

Thanks to our Education Support staff!

GAT Test

As communicated in the last newsletter, the GAT (General Achievement Test), will this year be conducted on Tuesday 18 June at 9:00 am for all students completing a Unit 3/4 VCE subject and for senior Vocational Major students. I encourage all students to carefully consider the management of their study habits over this period. Stress and anxiety that some students feel can be alleviated with a healthy approach. Utilising the advice and support from teachers can help students focus on the rights things in preparation for upcoming exams. Taking breaks, spending time with family and continuing with sporting and social activities are all important to maintaining a healthy schedule during this time.

I wish all students undertaking the GAT and our mid-year exams

Curriculum Day – Pupil Free Day

Friday 7 June is our only teacher professional practice day for all staff and a pupil free day for students. There will be no timetabled classes for students whilst staff use the day developing curriculum, building on their PLC’s, professional learning, assessment and correction.

Year 7 Camp

Year 7 camps for 2024 was conducted during the past fortnight. It was a fabulous opportunity for students to work together and continue to develop teamwork, their social connection, well-being, and resilience. A big thank-you to Ms. McCarthy and Mr Watson for their leadership and to all students and staff for their commitment to attend the camp.

Sporting Success

Congratulations to all students in the past fortnight who have represented our school in school sport. Our college was successful in, AFL, netball, and soccer in the past 2 weeks. Most pleasing was the feedback from the community about how our students conducted themselves with humility, a sense of community and care for each other and others. Keep up the great work!

SSV State Team Selection

Congratulations to Ruby Flett (Year 8) for her selection in the U15 SSV Cricket Team to participate in the School Sport Australia National Championships. Ruby is a fabulous member of our SSP AFL program and wonderful leader across our school community. We are very proud of Ruby and her selection and wish her well for the carnival.

Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday

There will be no school on Monday 10 June as it is a public holiday for the Kings’ Birthday.

Have a great weekend and take care,
