National Simultaneous Storytime - Bowerbird Blues

In Reading, we have been 'getting our knowledge ready' before joining in with over 2 million other students, to read the picture story book, 'Bowerbird Blues' by Aura Parker for National Simultaneous Storytime.  We discovered we didn't have much prior knowledge about this bird so we made Zines where we researched seven interesting facts about bowerbirds and published them in a little book. Did you know bowerbirds build their nest in the shape of a teepee and then collect 'blue treasures' to carefully place around the nest to attract the female bowerbird? Sometimes these nests can be up to 2.7 metres tall! We then made predictions about what we think the story might be about and what the problem could be before we read it using the front cover and title to prompt our predictions. We even watched a video of the real bowerbird that inspired the author, Ms Parker to write this book. Lastly, we read the book and celebrated the writer's craft used to make the book so interesting. We found the author used loads of vibrant verbs and descriptive phrases, onomatopoeia, rhyme, alliteration and hyperboles. We have really enjoyed celebrating this book, alongside 2 million other students around Australia.

Campaspe Soccer Tournament

Girls

The sound of girls cheering from the side lines as we play our final game still rings though my ears. A highlight was when Mia braced herself. She shoots and scores! On the 4th of May most of our 5/6 students went to the Moama Jack Eddy Oval, Soccer Grounds to play in the Campaspe Soccer Tournament competition. The girls team managed to place third. Our team had an amazing day and we hope for more like it!

Boys

On Tuesday we played Interschool soccer. We were all really excited. We left with a boys team, a girls team and a mixed team. I was on the boys team. We came out with some excitement and some hope but for the whole day we were out of luck and couldn’t win any games. We all had a lot of fun and there were a couple of good games we played but we couldn’t get over the line and win a game. One of those being against St Pats. We came out with some confidence. The first half was intense, being 0-0 but the second half was even better. St Pats kicked a goal and then after that it was crazy but we couldn’t kick any goals and we lost.

Mixed

The mixed team went all right. We stopped so many goals for the other teams. We got close to kicking so many goals ourselves but the other team always stopped us. At the end of the day we were all tired. Thank you to Mrs Young, Mrs Pridham and Brett for taking us and thank you to all the umpires for their time to umpire us.

Senior Citizens Lunches

Wednesdays are the day we get to go to Senior Citizens. If you don’t know what we are talking about, then let us help you understand how we have such a great time! Senior Citizens is located behind our school on 14 Cavell street. When we visit, we take coffee and tea orders and make them for our folks. Then we hand out some cookies to everyone but not everyone wants them. We also hand lunch out to everyone but they don’t have to eat it of course, then we take away their empty plates and BRING OUT DESSERT!!! After dessert we take their bowls and unfortunately have to do the dishes. Senior Citizens is a great way to make new friends (that aren’t our age!!) We even made a friend called Tracey but we call her Tay Tay!!! Sometimes we even see family there. Senior Citizens is so cool. They even have a birthday, it is on the 26th of July. We had so much fun.

GTS Visits

Thursday morning Archie, Kevin, Noah and Ace all went down to GTS in Tongala with Mr Hogan. We walked there early in the morning and when we got there we met all the workers. They told us what jobs we had to do and where we had to go. Kevin got to go and lift a bunch of things, Archie swept the floor, Ace vacuumed the whole shop and Noah put things on the shelves and helped to lift things. After about an hour of working we got to get some hot chocolates and doughnuts. After this, we did a little more work before walking back to school. They also gave us a couple of footballs and soccer balls.

Thanks to Mr Hogan, Jordan Souter, Tugger, Nathan and Mick.

Live From The Larynx Incursion

On the 24th May, a beatboxer came to TPS and did some amazing beatboxing. Some of the students were invited to go up in front of the whole school and have a go at beatboxing. They were very good and he made two songs for us. They where very good. Lots of kids got his autograph. They were very happy and excited to get his autograph. He went India, Japan, Tokyo, Singapore, New York and now Tongala. He was saying how you have to push your lungs up as far as you can then use that breath to do the beatboxing. His name was TOM THUM! He was hitting his throat to make the sounds more realistic. Thanks for all the teachers for organising this.

5/6 General News and Reminders

Students who need to bring mobile phones to school are being reminded to drop them off to the office before school and collect them at the end of the day where they will be securely kept. This is in line with Education Departments policies.

Please encourage your student to wear school uniform, including their school jumpers as the Grade 5/6 students are the leaders of our school and set an example for the rest of the school. We discourage footy shorts and casual jumpers.
