Music

Wow!  We have had a handful of students have breakthrough moments this week. Practising really does work to improve playing.  Seeing the smiles, and the improved skill set when children make this connection is priceless.

How do you eat an elephant?

One mouthful at a time.

Learning a new piece requires the same approach. Each time you sit down to play, choose just a couple of bars and follow this process:

  1. Read the names of the notes to yourself.
  2. Practise the fingering/slide/valve positions without blowing.
  3. Play the bars about 10 times until you are confident.

At this point you can move on to the next ‘mouthful’ of music, 2 bars at a time.

There are no music lessons this week so this is a really good opportunity for all students to focus on learning difficult parts of new pieces.
