Chess

Tumut Region Chess Tournament.

In the past, before the pandemic hit, our school competed in multiple chess tournaments in Wagga and Albury. Unfortunately, even though chess returned to Wagga, we were unable to attend due to constraints on numbers. This year we were very lucky to have a tournament hosted in Tumut which enabled us to participate once again. I entered two teams originally and then discovered that we had enough students interested to enter a third team at the very last minute.

All of our team members conducted themselves impeccably, both while they were playing chess and while they were in between games waiting for the next round. It didn't matter if they were winning more or winning less they had constant smiles on their faces. They interacted well with all of the other participants playing friendly games of soccer and multiple games of chess for fun.

Our team of Isabella, Orlando, Gabby and Roch playing on boards 1,2,3 and 4 respectively finished 7th, which was a great effort. Special mention needs to go to Orlando who didn’t lose a match and Charles who won 4 and drew 2 (no losses). I think all students had a great day and it has inspired us to keep practicing and improving to prepare for our next tournament - wherever and whenever that may be.
