Music Department

Recently our instrumental students had the opportunity to perform for the Soul + Food initiative in Wendouree, which is a service that supplies food items and personal care products to low income families and individuals.

Our staff and students were warmly welcomed by the organisation and it was really worthwhile for us to participate in such meaningful community engagement and gain an insight into the important work being undertaken.

The Soul + Food team looked after the students very well and the clients enjoyed the show, with an invitation for us to return later in the year in the lead up to Christmas.

An elderly client in attendance told me she attended Ballarat High in the 50s and still gets together with her classmates every year.

Well done to all involved.

Songwriting

Recently 15 Y11/12 VCE & VET Music students participate in a 2 day workshop with Australian music industry professionals.

Day 1 - The students worked with the mentors in small groups to create a song from scratch. The day ended with each group presenting their songs live.

Day 2 - The mentors recorded & produced each song in our studio spaces culminating in a listening party.

All students were very involved in the songwriting process. It gave them an insight into the Music Industry and the workflow it takes to create & release music.

If you'd like to listen to the songs that were created, stream them from here:
