Foundation-Grade 1 Miss Bennett

These F/1 busy bees have been well and truly getting stuck into Term 2. They have been working really hard in all of their subjects and their listening and learning has been blowing Miss Bennett away!

Over the last two weeks the Foundation students have been learning the letters B, H and N in stage 2 of the LLLL program in phonics. They have been working on writing all of the letters they have learnt with correct letter formation, as well as their heart words 'The', 'I' and 'my'. In Grade 1 the students have been learning about 'R controlled vowels' and the past two weeks have seen them learn about 'ir', 'ur', 'ar' and 'or'. They are becoming experts at them!

In Maths, their learning about partitioning has been fantastic. The busy bees have been learning about partitioning numbers to 10 into 2 parts and 3 parts. They really enjoyed using the part-part whole placements with the counters and playing 'Jack's Beans' with our student teacher Miss Ruth.

The biggest highlight over the last two weeks from the beehive was getting to be involved in the 'Spotlight on STEM' day. We are now experts in the 4 letters of STEM and loved getting to complete 4 activities on each letter. There are lots of STEM gurus in F/1!

 Grade 1-2 Miss Hart

Wow! Can you believe we are already half way through Term 2? It is crazy to think about how much we have already achieved this term, and how much more we have yet to learn. I am super proud of all of your children and their efforts this term!

To mark the middle of the term, the students thought it would be a good idea to share their favourite things about the term so far.

Grade 3 Mrs Stock

This week in our Text Base Unit- 'The King of the Polar Bears', the Grade 3 students have been working on expanding on a scene from the text by adding action. They have been using adverb phrases to create a mental image for the reader.

For Mathematics this week, we have begun our unit of work on Patterns. They have learnt how to  follow a rule to complete a robot function machine. They have also been working hard on their times tables and linking multiples to increasing or decreasing patterns. A new favourite game they have played this week is 'Hit the Button', where they have to try and beat their own score.

We have come to an end in our 'Followers of Jesus' unit in Religion this week. The students have been busy completing their final assessment where they had to create a storyboard with the main elements of the story, 'The Good Samaritan'. They then had to explain what Jesus was teaching and how this message could be applied today.

The students are very excited to have Miss Lee, our student teacher, join our class next week!

Grade 4 Mrs Loughran

Grade 4's work very hard during their literacy sessions.  We have been using our knowledge of the spelling rules which help us to spell unfamiliar words.  We have a great routine in our room, the students understand how to correctly use their whiteboards and whiteboard markers to ensure they are successful.

During RE, we recently read the story of the Good Samaritan.  It helped us to understand how Jesus taught his followers by telling them stories.  Here are some storyboards we have completed of the Good Samaritan

Telling the time has been a major focus in our class during maths sessions.  The are improving each day, make sure you ask any of the Grade 4's what the time is when you see them!!!

Grade 5-6 Miss Rasmussen

In English, the Grade 5/6 students have been mastering the structure of paragraphs, focusing on identifying and understanding the four key components: Topic Sentence, Explanation, Evidence, and Concluding Statement. Using "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", the students have applied these concepts while analysing the text, enhancing both their reading and writing skills. Everyone is eagerly following the plot, anticipating the showdown between Aslan and the White Witch.

In Maths, students have progressed to adding and subtracting fractions. They started with operations involving fractions with common denominators, a concept they grasped quickly. The challenge was upped with fractions having different denominators, where they learned to find common multiples to facilitate the addition or subtraction. This has been an excellent exercise in enhancing their problem-solving skills.

Our soccer team experienced a slight setback with the tournament being postponed due to bad weather; however, they headed off on Tuesday instead and had a great day. Congratulations to Zac and Tamara for moving on to the next level in Cross Country! They will compete at St Arnaud. We are proud of their dedication and performance.

The recent Spotlight on STEM day was a hit! We enjoyed participating in multiage activities, demonstrating and sharing our knowledge with younger students. It was a fantastic opportunity for hands-on learning and fostering a love for science, technology, engineering, and maths.

Our Grade 6 students shone as leaders during our recent open day. They did an exemplary job guiding prospective families around the school, speaking positively about their experiences and showing great kindness towards visiting children. It was fantastic to see them demonstrating their leadership skills.
