Foundation/Year 1/Year 2

On Monday the F/1/2 students were fortunate to have Narelle from Quirky Tales come and perform this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime text 'Bowerbird Blues' by Aura Parker. Narelle’s puppet show used a variety of puppets and backgrounds that she had made from materials she found around her house.

Here are some students reviews from the show:

Matilda & Braxton - “It was good, I liked all the blue things that were collected”

Harry - “I liked the blue bowerbird puppet”

Izzy B - “I like all the birds, both of them”

Addison - “It was a good show, I liked the birds and it was funny when the bird dropped the blue things it was trying to pick up”

Evie - “I liked doing the actions in the songs at the end”

Hunter - “The puppets were pretty cute”

Year 3/4

This week, we've been enjoying our own class time, getting back into good routines and achieving our learning goals.

In Numeracy, we have been splitting the two 3/4 classes to explore different learning strategies tailored to our capabilities in addition and subtraction. Our focus has been on working with numbers in the two to four-digit range. We have been practising strategies such as bridging, doubles and near doubles, number sentences, and vertical equations. The students are doing a fantastic job, and next week we will move on to place value.

This week we decided to have a mid term check in with our students to see how they are going at school and what they enjoy about the new Jocelyn Seamer literacy program.

Ella- “ I like learning the phonics and decoding because it helps me with my spelling and reading where I can notice the sounds I’ve learnt”

Olivia-"I like literacy and in particular the morphology part because it helps me understand the meaning of words and adding the correct suffix to the end of words”

Blake- “I like the daily review because it helps me remember what we are learning and is a great challenge”

Hannah- “I like to learn split digraphs, because I find it interesting that two letters make the one sound”

Archie- “ I love to learn about all the different text base units and learning new digraphs”

Billie- “ I enjoy working with a partner during the partner practice because it is collaborative”

Sophie-” I enjoy the morphology component of literacy because you can work at your own pace”

Year 5/6

Literacy

This week, the students began exploring a new book, "Fox'' by Margaret Wild. They have been working on making inferences, connections, and predictions. The students have thoroughly enjoyed looking deeply into the text and will continue to develop their literary skills in various areas over the coming weeks. Dyad reading (partner reading) has been very successful. Students are loving the stories being shared in class and are acting as great models for each other!

Maths

Fractions have been our new topic this week. We have been investigating equivalent fractions and how they can be represented visually. The students have also learned how to simplify fractions into their lowest form and represent these visually using diagrams.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, we have been learning about the weather and how it is predicted. We built our own weather stations and measured the weather for a week. We then compared it against the predictions of BOM. We will soon be learning about extreme weather events.

Cross Country

Well done to all our cross country runners who competed in Echuca. Your dedication and hard work were evident on the course, and we are proud of each and every one of you for your efforts. A special congratulations to Darcie and Harrison who have now qualified to run at zone level!
