Class 3/4

Extending and merging mathmatics with enquiry, today Kathryn's class untook a challenge.

The Big Zucchini Challenge.  Kathryn bought in several gigantic zucchini's from her farm for the students to use. These zucchini's have been grown with heirloom seeds.

Breaking down the competition into different areas heaviest, appearance, best name, longest, fattest and most seeds.

Students broke into the groups of 2 or 3 to take on these investigations.

Students worked out the percentage of green on the fruit, measurments in centermeters of length and circumference, weight on both digital and analogue scales, comparing how heavy each fruit felt to other groups, looking at shape and size.

Tomorrow investigations and winners will come to a conculsion once the zucchini's are cut to see who has the most seed in number and weight.
