Grade 1 News

We’ve had a fantastic couple of weeks in Grade 1, filled with exciting reading activities, fantastic learning, and plenty of hard work.
Reading Nights & Fantastic Reading
It’s been wonderful to see children filling in their reading diaries and building up those reading nights! We love students so excited to read at home. We encourage you to continue this reading over the holidays. Reading with your child each night, even if it's just for a few minutes, makes a huge difference in their learning and confidence!
Writing– Edwina the Emu
In class, we've been diving into the story of Edwina the Emu. Students have been exploring questions about emus and gathering facts about these fascinating animals. It’s been amazing to see how engaged the students are, asking thoughtful questions and discovering new facts about emus. We’ve also done some wonderful information writing on the topic, and it’s clear that our young learners are becoming confident writers!
Maths Learning
In Maths, we’ve been focusing on addition and subtraction strategies. Students have been learning different ways to solve problems, with a particular focus on "partitioning" numbers, which means breaking them up into smaller, more manageable parts. It’s been wonderful to see students using tools like counters, number lines, and drawings to help solve tricky problems.
Congratulations to our Week 9 Achievement award students.
We are so proud of how much our Grade 1 students are growing and learning!
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement.
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday break and we look forward to seeing your children in Term 2.
