Performing Arts

Wow, what a start to the year! Students are enjoying exploring the world of music and dance, using their understanding of emotions to express lyrics of songs with movement.
Year 1
Students have learnt about beats and rests this term, each class creating their own Beat and Shh sentence. We played each one with a steady beat with piano accompaniment and they sounded great!
Students applied their knowledge of beat to do actions to the song, ‘Punchinello’ a traditional folk song about a funny clown. To finish off the term, the Year Ones will create their own clown character including the features which we discussed.
Students carefully noted that clowns wear face paint, wigs, a big red nose, large shoes, oversized pants, a colourful bow tie and a flower which squirts people in the face with water! How clever!
Year 2
Year 2 have enjoyed learning about the Fruit and Vegetable beats which have helped them explore different rhythms.
Students looked at the difference between Beat and Rhythm, learning a traditional English folk song, ‘Bow Wow Wow.’
The Year Two’s learnt a dance with partners and even swapped partners to show how clever they are at moving in a circular motion.
Year 2 Clarke are in action, singing and dancing to, ‘Bow Wow Wow.’
If you notice angry faces, the lady who notices the dog running free was not happy! Great use of expression Year Twos!
Year 3
Students in Year 3 have explored the Fruit and Vegetable rhythms, Beet (short for Beetroot) and cherry.
They applied their knowledge of these beat values to the American folk song, ‘Johnny Caught a Flea.’ It was funny to see the students’ expressions when they portrayed Johnny’s emotions from feeling happy when catching the flea, to crying when the flea was no longer around!
Some of the crying faces were very convincing!
Below is 3 Elliot doing the movements to the song, ‘Johnny Caught a Flea.’
Stay tuned for the Year 4 to 6 classes next term….
Drama Classes
The Year 3 to 6 students have brought to life many experiences through the power of drama!
It has been a thrill to see students take risks and show a different side to their personalities. Keep shining drama students and I can’t wait to see how you present your scripts next term!
