Grade 6 have spent some time looking at the famous Ned Kelly series by artist Sidney Nolan. Backgrounds were created by using paint rollers, foam stamps and old brushes (scratch grass), before re-imagining Ned in a range of different poses.

Here are some samples:

Grade 5 put the finishing touches to their Anya Brock kookaburras recently.

This particular project took some finesse, especially shown by those students that added fine detail onto their backgrounds.

Grade 5 also started a quick clay task in response to the current Yayoi Kusama exhibition at NGV. Kusama grew up on a flower and pumpkin farm in Matsumoto, Japan and flowers and pumpkins feature heavily in her work.

Grade 4 have also looked at themes evident in the work of Yayoi Kusama, identifying dots, pumpkins and mushrooms as key themes. Here are a few examples of their work

Grade 3 continued to focus on contemporary Australian artist Anna Blatman.

We viewed some of her landscape paintings and identified characteristics of those works.

Grade 2 worked hard to finish their reverse painting. Here are some that we got over the line last week; paint pattern details adding the finishing touches.

Grade 1 viewed the Indigenous Australian dreamtime story of ‘How the Kangaroo got her pouch’ before creating this warm coloured background artwork.

Students enjoyed watching their creations grow from the simple starting point of large orange circles.

Grade 1 began to add their kangaroos this week as well

Foundation students viewed the picture story book ‘Grumpy Cat’ before re-creating the ginger cat in the text. Students firstly made a striped pattern on their page before cutting around their cat and adding details.
