From the Principal

Mr Elson

Hello, Gympie East parents, carers and community,

Thank you to those parents who were able to attend a Parent/Teacher meeting to discuss the progress of their child. These meetings are invaluable opportunities to build a positive relationship with your child’s teacher and get a clear picture of how they are progressing at the end of Term 1. This week and next week each classroom teacher will be taken offline for a day to take plan for Term 2 units with our Head of Curriculum, Mr Chris Walters. Teachers will also make plans for how they will differentiate for students and find ways to support them to achieve to the best of their ability.

Thank you to the parents who attended the P&C Annual General Meeting on Wednesday. I would like to personally thank Alison Shute, Sarah Gosling and Sarah Larder for their commitment to the P&C over many years. Their children are in year six and as such have decided to step down but will still be available to assist the new executive members. Our Treasurer position is still vacant after the AGM and we are looking for someone to please step in and take up the position. This would be a great time to step up as Alison is still available to assist in learning the role, as she has many years of experience and expertise to pass on. Please contact the School Office or a member of the P&C if you are interested.

Congratulations to Kellie Rogers for stepping into the President role, Amy Polzin who has taken on Vice President and to Jess Weiss who is going to share the Secretary position with Kelly Edmondstone. I know I speak for the entire school community when I sincerely thank the P&C members and executive for their commitment to our school.

PBL

Our focus for this week has been ‘Use positive language’. We know that when people become frustrated that positive language isn’t always used, so focussing on positive language this week has been very beneficial to all. Next week, our focus will be ‘Toilets – flush, wash, leave’. A number of students are still spending time in the toilets not doing the right thing and it is important that we stress on them that toilets are not a place to play in.

We have reached the threshold for our worm tube and Friday 4th April will be Loud Shirt Day. Please ensure you have sent in a cheap white shirt (any colour could do though) to decorate. The decorating will begin Monday and will finish by Thursday to give us time to let our creativity fly!

X-Country Postponed

We have made the decision to postpone our School Cross Country until Thursday 3rd April due to the unpredictability of the weather and the mud that will still be present on Tuesday. This will also give our kids another opportunity to prepare and get in some practice laps before the race.

Parade

The last Parade for Term 1 will be held Friday 4th April from 2:30pm and will incorporate our Annual Easter Bonnet Parade.
