Auslan News
Hello everyone,
We hope you all had a relaxing break and enjoyed the sunshine during the holidays. We are looking forward to the next fortnight with lots of fun learning in the Auslan classroom. It’s always great to see students practising the signs they have learnt and being enthusiastic about their learning.
SIGNS OF THE WEEK
Don’t forget to ask your child to show you some of the AUSLAN signs they have been learning. In the last fortnight we have been revising many signs that we learnt last year. The signs of the week are: ‘I like’, ‘I love’ & ‘I enjoy.’
IN THE CLASSROOM
Years 3 – Students have been practising signs they learnt last term and they will be learning how to sign the Australian National Anthem in Auslan.
Year 4 – Students will be learning how to sign words related to seasons and the weather in Auslan.
Year 5 – Students will be learning how to sign the names of various hobbies, as well as expressing their favourite hobby in Auslan.
Year 6 – Students will be learning about deaf culture. We have invited a deaf guest speaker, Naomi with her interpreter, to share information about her life and the challenges she faced growing up as a deaf person. Incursion will be held on Tuesday the 29th of April. (Year 5 & 6 will be attending.)
- Learning Auslan increases enjoyment in communicating for both hearing and deaf children.
