CLASSROOM NEWS!

P/1 Excitements and Activities

I honestly cannot believe that we are in our last week of Term 1 already!!!! It seems like just yesterday our little Preppies we just starting 'Big School' and our Grade 1's were getting used to being the 'big kids' in the classroom. Fast forward 10 weeks and we have all settled into our new roles and routines, and have already shown such wonderful and encouraging growth in our learning and friendships.

This fortnight during literacy we have continued to forge ahead with our Initialit program, introducing new sounds and digraphs. We have also been busy writing a creative story that will be sent home in student learning journals this week. Our maths focus has been learning the different features of time, such as days, weeks and months, and how we use these every day. We wrapped up our Biological Science topic of minibeasts with a special treat yesterday, watching an episode of the National Geographic series 'A 'real' bugs life'. I would encourage parents to continue watching this series with the kids through the holidays, as they were extremely engaged and loved seeing all the different bugs we had been learning about.

Finally, as we bring the term to a close, I would like to thank the our amazing parents & grandparents for your ongoing support so far this year. We look forward to a fantastic term 2!

News from the 2/3 Room

We have had a very productive couple of weeks in the 2/3 classroom.

In Literacy, we have been developing and publishing our persuasive comic pieces (to be presented at assembly) and are launching ourselves back into narratives with some inspiration from Andy Griffith's 'What's in the Box?' Writer's Notebook activity.

In Maths, we have been investigating some data about our class and our school. From most common lunchbox items to favourite days of the week, students have been busy surveying, collecting and visualising personal data. Here's Harvey's wonderful presentation of the data he collected today and developed independently. Turns out most people love Sunday!

It is absolutely amazing that the first term is already ending. I want to congratulate the grade 2 and 3 students for their persistence and for showing off their quirky sense of humour this term to make the classroom a supportive and fun place to be!

4/5/6 News

Welcome to Miss Bri! Miss Bri is a student teacher who has been working in our classroom with us for the past two weeks. She will also be here for three weeks next term. Miss Bri is learning how to become a teacher. We are really enjoying having her in our classroom and helping her on her journey to becoming an AMAZING teacher!

Miss Childs

We have been working hard in our Literacy sessions in the past two weeks. We have been striving to finish reading our class text, 'The Wild Robot'. We have really loved reading this boo,k and we are hopeful to find time to watch the movie so that we can do a 'compare and contrast' between the movie and the book.

In writing, our focus is still on persuasives. After learning about advertising as a persuasive format, students have buddied up to create a poster for their very own robot. They had to think about the robots purpose and their target audience (who do they want to sell the robot to?).  They used computers to make their poster with lots of persuasive devices including, eye catching colours and visuals, high modality language, slogans, rhetorical questions, and exclusive pricing and sales! We cant wait to finish them and put them on display for you all to see. *This picture is a model of a persuasive poster which was made based on Roz, the main character from our class shared novel, 'The Wild Robot'.
