Building a Safer Online and School Community

This week, we welcomed Constable Chris Anderson and Constable Elliot Merrett to Boorowa Central School. They spoke with students in Stages 3, 4 and 5 about responsible social media use, cyberbullying, respectful language, and the consequences of pranks like ‘knock and run.’ Their visit was a valuable opportunity for students to understand the real-world impact of their online and offline actions.

One of the key messages shared was that nothing online is ever truly deleted — police can retrieve removed posts. Students were also reminded of the importance of protecting their passwords, as the owner of a device is ultimately responsible for any content posted from it. Ando made it clear that law enforcement takes language intended to harm or cause harm to others very seriously.

At Boorowa Central School, we are committed to fostering a safe and respectful environment. We encourage students to speak up when they experience concerning behaviour. While students often talk to parents or friends first, the school must also be informed so we can work together to support and guide them.

Please contact the school if you have any concerns about your child; our door is always open for a conversation. By working together as a school community, we endeavour to create a safe and supportive learning environment for all.

Whole-School Focus: Contributing to Our Community Weeks 10 & 11

Over the next two weeks, Boorowa Central School is focusing on how students can make a positive difference in their school, community, and beyond. This means showing kindness, helping others, speaking up when something isn’t right, using technology responsibly, and stepping up as leaders.

As we head into the holiday break, students have many opportunities to demonstrate these values. One meaningful way is by participating in the ANZAC march. We encourage students to represent the school and honour the contributions of our veterans. This small act of respect makes a powerful statement about gratitude and community spirit.

These everyday actions help create a safer, more inclusive, and supportive environment for everyone. We encourage families to chat about what it means to be an active, responsible member of the community.

If you have any thoughts or questions, I’d love to hear from you!
