PREP SNAPSHOT
Hi Prep families,
In Literacy, we have been learning about the conjunctions but and so. Students have been using sentence starters in their writing to use the words but and so in sentences. We have continued practising to read and write words with 4 sounds in them (e.g. flop, drop, camp).
In Maths, students have begun investigating positional language. We have looked at the words ‘on top’, ‘in front’, ‘under’, ‘behind’ and ‘next to’. Students have been using these new learned words to describe and compare objects around them. We have also continued practising to look at teen numbers by identifying them, writing them, counting objects up to 20 and looking at teen numbers on tens frames or MAB.
Prep students have loved beginning our inquiry unit about rockpools. Students have now begun looking at different animals that live in rock pools. This week, we read texts about sea anemones. Students listened to texts about sea anemones and answered questions relating to the text.

YEAR 3/4 SNAPSHOT
Hello 3/4 Families,
We were super impressed with the way our students participated in Book Week. Congratulations to Lincoln and Marcus for their costume win! Lincoln’s mandrake and Marcus’ Captain Underpants were certainly a marvel!
In the last two weeks in Literacy we have continued to learn about different organisms and habitats. We discovered different adaptations that animals have that help them to survive in their environment. Students learned about animals that can camouflage themselves and animals that have night vision. Students also learned about a specific organism that was either a social animal or not. They then prepared for a conference amongst their peers as they endeavoured to become an expert on their animal. In writing we have moved from writing compound sentences to learning about complex sentences. Our students know that a complex sentence has an independent clause and a dependent clause. We have learned a new acronym called ISAWAWABUB (I saw a wa bub!).
In Maths, we consolidated our knowledge of length and perimeter using formal units of measurement. We used centimetres and metres to measure length and used strategies such as doubling to make our calculations more efficient. We got to go outside and draw large rectangles and squares with chalk as a whole year level! Then we measured them and put our strategies to use! Students also participated in a scavenger hunt around the school to find really challenging and ambitious objects to measure. They did a great job!
Year 3 and 4 students have also begun to think about a habitat that they are interested in and are excited to start our habitat projects. We will be building a habitat using materials from school and writing an informational text.

YEAR 5/6 SNAPSHOT
Term 3 marches on with the Year 5/6 team getting closer to the end of our class text ‘Blueback’ We have been investigating new vocabulary, exploring the themes of ‘Coming of Age’ within known text, and making connections to the world around us. Having such a deep and meaningful text with such great discussion points has allowed us to understand the point of views belonging to different characters all taking part in the northern reaches of Australia.
This has connected closely with our current Knowledge Unit surrounding the behavioural and structural adaptations of animals. We have been able to investigate the marine life we have read about in the book, and extended this research to deepen our connection with the text. Making these real life connections make reading more interesting, and help our comprehension skills! We have been able to have a go at creating our own animals with structural adaptations, attempting to hide butterflies around the classroom while blending them with their backgrounds. Some outstanding colour matching and camouflage skills!
A great big well done to all the Year 5 and 6 students participating in our Book Week parade on Friday! The outfits were fantastic, which means a big WELL DONE goes to our community to put in so much effort and dedication for the day. I hope you got some time to celebrate all things reading throughout the week, and thank you all for creating a magical day!
And who could forget about our very exciting upcoming camp! Any medications that come on camp must be accompanied by a medication form with all the relevant information filled in. If you think you may require one of these to be filled in, please don’t hesitate to ask a classroom teacher and we can provide one to you. Thanks everyone!
SPECIALIST
STEM
In STEM this term we have been focused on Design Technology. Students have been working through the design process and sinking their teeth into lots of construction.
Prep Students have been exploring different materials and their properties, understanding how these materials are used in everyday objects. Additionally, they've brainstormed and designed creative ways to reuse everyday recycled materials, turning them into new and useful items. To support their upcoming projects, we kindly ask you to send in any clean recycled materials that students can use to make their designs later this week.
Grade 1/2 Students have been exploring different cutting, joining and constructing techniques using MAKE DO tools and cardboard. They have also designed and constructed their own mini model of an athlete using aluminium foil.
Grade 3/4 Students are busily building and testing their events ready for our Sphero Olympics, which will take place in their STEM class in the next few weeks.
Grade 5/6 Students have planned and designed ‘table top olympic games’ that they are busily constructing, ready to share with the rest of the school in week 8.
All students have shown great problem solving skills and perseverance as they have been designing and constructing their creations.
