A Spotlight on Learning in the JLC on Heights Campus
Our JLC students have had an amazing time expanding their learning in all areas of the curriculum whilst having fun throughout Term 3. Our recent Book Week Celebrations gave all students additional opportunities to immerse into the story world and further explore the "Magic of Reading".
Wow! What a brilliant effort everyone put into getting their classroom door decorated to represent their chosen book. In our FLC/ JLC space the winner for best door was 1/2A for their class book ‘Bear and Duck are Friends’. Well Done 1/2A what an awesome door display you have created! All our students chose to dress up in their favourite character costume, we had many different characters, princesses, witches, Harry Potter and Where’s Wally fans for the Book Parade. It proved to be such an enjoyable day for all and a Great Big THANK YOU to all the parents and teachers who helped make it such a success for our children with their costumes and for joining in all the fun dressing up as well.
Our focus in Reading has been learning to read fiction texts and to recognise their features, being able to use picture clues and scan for keywords that can help us understand the text better. We can then answer literal questions easier; these answers are found directly in the text. We can also use the clues from the text to think of what similar experiences we may have had or read about to respond to inferential questions which rely on our personal prior knowledge.
In Mathematics, students have been learning how to model real life addition stories by identifying and using their knowledge of 10 more /10 less and 100 more /100 less. We have continued by learning to solve subtraction problems by counting back or counting up and finding the difference.
Reminder: Swimming Program Commences Next Week:
As students will be participating in the swimming program for the next two weeks, the JLC students have been focusing on Water Safety for Projects. Students are learning rules to keep safe when at the pool for swimming and when being around water.
Such rules are that apply to all including adults:
- Never swim alone; always swim with a buddy
- Swim between the flags
- Listen to lifeguards and follow pool or beach rules
- Avoid running near pools or diving in shallow water
- Stay hydrated and take breaks
Students will need to bring with them everyday they go swimming the following:
All swimmers will need to wear their swimming suit/bathers underneath their uniform, long hair is to be tied back/in a plait if long.
