Introduction
We just can't believe that it is Week 8 already! These past few weeks have been full of exciting adventures. In Week 6, we had a very special week! That's right, Book Week! How memorable was our parade?
In Week 7, the SLC went on not just one…......but TWO excursions in one week. The SLC went to Puffing Billy and had an awesome time there! The next day, they went to Wellington Secondary College and got to see a spectacular SpongeBob musical performance where they got to meet some amazing actors and performers. The FLC got to celebrate a special day for the special people in their lives - FLC Fathers and Friends Day! It was so heartwarming to see the FLC having some fun at their Father's Day event. As you can see, the past few weeks have been filled with so many amazing things!
Book Week (Kerri-Anne)
In Week 6, we celebrated Book Week - a very special event the school holds annually. This year, students from across different learning centres have shown collaboration by designing their very own Book Week door display. It was amazing to see everyone participating in this celebration. But it was even more amazing to see all the students dress up as a character from a book they chose and join in with the parade. Some of us had very little time, but it was beautiful to see everyone still having fun while creating their outfits and door display.
During our very special Book Week parade, everyone was dressed to impress! From all different people dressing up as wizards like Harry Potter to people who incorporated inflatable animals into their costumes. Our main event was amazing to see. We saw students, teachers, and even parents walking around and joining in the fun. Some special moments we loved were watching people in awe of the amazing costumes and winning awards/little gifts for having the best outfit. Of course, everyone's outfit was amazing, and we wish we could give out awards to EVERYONE! Before we move on to the next topic, we would like to thank our MCs - Mrs Sideridis, Miss Hammond, AND Mrs Hahesy! We would also like to acknowledge our student leaders Kerri-Anne, Jagpal and Selena, who also helped host the event, pick the best door display and the best dressed awards!
Puffing Billy Excursion (Anas)
In Week 7, teh SLC had the opportunity to visit Puffing Billy. Puffing Billy is a steam train that has been running since 1900. We had the chance to learn about the very first Puffing Billy train called 3A. Can you believe it's over 120 years old?
We also got to explore electrical circuits, how they work and even conducted some experiments with light bulbs! It was great to see the students collaborating to make the light bulb glow.
Jamil from 5/6D said,
"The trees around Emerald Lake were beautiful and the lake was filled with ducks. We were strolling around, and the atmosphere was great!”.
The train ride was even better than we anticipated. All the SLC students were so excited when we finally got to board the train and set out on our journey! We saw lots of things including alpacas and kangaroos. It was amazing to see all the SLC students have the best time of their lives and create memories that we will never forget.
FLC Fathers and Friends Morning
The FLC celebrated a very special event called Father’s Day! The students in the FLC invited their fathers and special people in their lives to celebrate this special day together. It was lovely to see all the students spend some time with the people they love, and they even made gifts for their special people. The FLC presented their gifts in the most heartwarming way possible, and I'm sure it made their special people have a great day. The parents/guardians will never forget the memories that were made that day.
Mathematics Achievements
In these past few weeks, the SLC has been learning to measure and compare perimeters. Everybody has been putting in lots of dedication into making sure that they can achieve as many success criteria as possible. They have even gone as far as finding the perimeter of composite shapes. The SLC students were able to show they could solve real life perimeter problems by designing their "Dream House" and calculating the perimeter of their three favourite rooms. Most students were even able to apply their additive thinking to convert metres to other metric units. A small group of students also learnt how to calculate the perimeter of a circle. (Which, did you know, is called the circumference?) They then went above and beyond by using that knowledge to find the perimeter of their circular shaped rooms. Well done to the SLC students and their amazing achievements in Mathematics!
Conclusion
These past few weeks have been loads of fun for everybody. It was great to see everybody having fun at all the events we've had recently. It was so lovely to see people dress up for Book Week and the FLC present gifts to their special people. As you may know, as much as there can be fun, there always must be some sort of learning. So that is why it is vital that everybody stays on track with learning so the teachers and Principals can see that we can have fun AND still learn a lot. There is so much more left to this term, such as our whole school swimming program which will be running for the last 2 weeks of the term as well as our remaining interschool sport matches. Friday the 20th of September will be the last day for this term. We will have an early finish, so please don't forget to remind your parents to pick you up at 2:30! Thank you.
