Our Annual Women’s Health Forum: a Huge Success Yet Again!
A great big heartfelt thank you to Gabrielle Williams MP, Mayor Cr Lana Formoso - Noble Park North and Bec Kotow from Community Hubs Australia for joining us at our Annual Women’s Health Forum yesterday. Leonie Fitzgerald, the Principal of Dandenong South PS and I greatly appreciated the support and advocacy for our community each of them provides.
For those of you who don’t know, Dandenong South Primary School and Springvale Rise Primary School have been working together for a number of years; pulling together an annual Women’s Health Forum that is specifically tailored for and responsive to the needs of the women in our two culturally diverse communities. We strive to create a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where culturally and linguistically diverse women can come together to learn about health (including mental health) and wellbeing all while fostering a sense of connection and community spirit.
These Annual Forums have been breaking down many barriers and over the years we have successfully connected with a variety of partner organisations. Our mission has been to build the knowledge and understanding of the women who attend the sessions, addressing topics such as the importance of breast screening and cervical screening, vaccinations, mental health supports, basic first aid training, the use of car seats in vehicles etc. Our motto is: “Empower Women : Empower Families”. This year our partners included:
- Australian Muslim Women’s Centre for Human Rights
- Ambulance Victoria
- Monash Health
- KidSafe
- Jean Hailes for Women’s Health
- Chobani
- Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health
- The Water Well Project
- Pinchapoo
And our Forum was proudly supported by one of the community grants provided the City of Greater Dandenong.
And, finally a HUGE congratulations to Hub Leaders Julie RACITI (from our Springvale Rise PS Hub) and Regina MOORE (from the Dandenong South PS Hub) for their outstanding organisation. What an achievement! Each year it just seems to get bigger and better! The feedback from all the women was sooooooo positive.
Bring on 2025!
Keep smiling!
Mrs Debbie Cottier
