Saints Students and Staff Making a Difference

Jayden Cox - Service Captain

Following on from Relay for Life’s massive success earlier this term, we added in a Daffodil Day fundraiser. We raised an additional $1000 for the cause and our mums got to enjoy some daffodils. Thanks to Ms Marino who organised all the events around this fundraiser.

Every year boys from all year levels bring cardboard and sleeping bags to sleep rough in the Year 7 quad for the Vinnies  Sleepout, which is on tonight. All they have is a cup of soup and a piece of bread for dinner and won't eat anything again until the morning.  Each student has pledged to raise $50, which will go towards helping those experiencing homelessness in the Cairns region. This year 62 students are participating. Thank you to Mrs Roberts, Mr Keyte, Mr Dobrota and Mrs Cross for helping to supervise and make this event possible.

The Student Representative Council organised the Beach to Bins cleanup recently.

Two SRC members, Ethan Glass and Cooper Meares, have the details:

Thirty Saints student went to the Cairns Esplanade to pick up rubbish from 3-5pm on 14 August. Together we collected over 30 bags of rubbish with the help of Mrs Cross and Mr Dorahy. We gathered a large range of rubbish, from torn off pieces of Keno tickets and muddy traffic cones to a discarded fishing rod. The haul was diverse to say the least. The afternoon was full of joy, connections and development with the public.

It's been a wonderful year for service so far, thank you for your outstanding effort and dedication to helping our community.
