Principal's Report

Mr Pitt

Dear Parents/Carers,

PUBLIC EDUCATION WEEK IN REVIEW – PROUD TO BELONG

We had a wonderful week last week celebrating Public Education Week at Fairvale PS. The theme this year was ‘Proud to Belong’, which we shared in a video at the start of Term 3.

  • MONDAY - Classes kicked off the week celebrating NAIDOC Day. Children viewed videos and received a NAIDOC Day wristband highlighting our commitment to Aboriginal history and culture. Children also created their own boomerang artwork. Check out the foyer to view some of the creative designs!
  • TUESDAY – We celebrated Family Day. It was wonderful to see so many parents and friends attend the hall to hear from Miss Fletcher, Miss Michelle and I. We also learnt more about the Little Kids, Big Changes project and viewed a percussion performance from 4/5B. Parents and friends also visited classrooms and joined in the fun with each class as they went outdoors for some class reading. After this we enjoyed our sausage sizzle lunch. Frankie even called in to say hi to everyone as well.
  • WEDNESDAY We celebrated OLYMPIC Day. This day was amazing. Children represented a country and participated as an athlete at the official opening and closing ceremonies at Fairvale PS. Throughout the day, children participated in events to gain points for their country. The overall winning country was New Zealand.
  • THURSDAY We celebrated Author Day. K-3 viewed a book sharing session with our favourite author Karen Tyrrell. Karen and her husband Steve performed one of my favourite books ‘Bailey beats the Blah!’. Whilst this was occurring, 4-6 students had the pleasure of attending an author talk presented by renowned children’s author, Morris Gleitzman.
  • FRIDAY – We held our normal Friday assemblies but awarded medals and certificates to the children who entered the Olympic Village Art Competition. We also awarded 3 children from each class with a school merit certificate to acknowledge their wonderful effort during Public Education Week.

Thank you to everyone for attending. Special thanks to Noahs Butcher for their kind donation and continued support of the school. I would also like to thank the Fairvale staff for their outstanding effort in planning and supporting Public Education Week. It was a great week!

BIKE VISITS WITH MR PITT

This last fortnight I visited 1B and 6K. Read my reports below and check out some of the photos in this edition of the newsletter.

1 BRIGHT – Due to sickness, I was unable to visit 1B this week, so Miss Fletcher went in my place. 1B were learning all about adding and subtracting on a number line. The students were independently using number lines and partitioning to help them work out the maths problems. The students and teachers were so engaged in their learning, and most students were able to explain how they got their answers!

6 KERR – I had a great bike visit to 6K last Monday. Children were busily editing their speech on a device. I was able to spend some time with each student to learn more about their work, as children could select which topic to present. The topics were fast fashion and youth crime. Children were able to confidently share with me their work. Miss Diep was also providing instant feedback by sharing this through Google classroom. It was pleasing to hear that many students were planning on editing their speech at home. Thank you 6K! It was great to see you all in class! Check out my pics in this edition of the newsletter.

SCIENCE WEEK 2024—SPECIES SURVIVAL: MORE THAN JUST SUSTAINABILTY

Next week is Science Week. The theme this year is ‘Species Survival: More than just sustainability.’ Projects will be on display in the library throughout Week 5. Everyone will have the opportunity to view the projects as part of our Science Week celebration. We hope that many children and/or families will submit a project. Projects can be individually, or family designed under one of the 3 areas: Artwork, Digital Representation or a 3D model.

BOOK WEEK 2024 – READING IS MAGIC

We will be celebrating Book Week in Week 6. This year everyone joins in the fun by creating a Door Book Display Competition. The competition closes at the end of Week 6 so everyone is busily thinking about what magic they can create. Door Book Display winners will be announced at the Week 7 assemblies. This year’s theme is ‘Reading is Magic’.
