Book Week 17-23 August 2024 : Reading is magic

There is a buzz in our school and something exciting is happening next week.  Step into our library and enjoy the beautiful display of ‘Short list’ books. Teachers have started sharing these books with their students.

During library sessions the students and teachers have been casting their votes for books they think will win the awards.

Book winners will be announced by the Children’s Book Council Australia on Friday 16 August @ 12 noon.

There are 6 categories in the Book of the year awards :

Book of the year : Younger readers (ages 7-12 years)

Book of the year : Early childhood (ages 0-6 years)

Picture Book of the year : (ages 0-18 years)

Book of the year : Eve Pownall award for factual material (ages 13-18 years)

Book of the year : Older readers (ages 13-18 years)

The CBCA award for New Illustrator (ages 0-18 years)

From our library leaders:

What a wonderful time we have had so far.  Being a library leader is so fun.  We have helped with the National Simultaneous Storytime, organizing books, the Book Fair and there is still more to come.  We are approaching book week and the judges are going to pick the ‘winners’ from the short list books. There are 6 book titles in each of the 6 book categories. The winning author will win a prize for their book.

Book Week is like a magical journey into the world of reading and stories!!.  It’s a time when the enchantment of books come alive, bringing people together to celebrate the wonders of literature.  From dressing up as beloved characters to diving into a new adventure through books, the magic of reading truly shines during book week.

It’s nearly Book Week!!

On Wednesday 21 August we will have author Armani Uduman doing a workshop with students in grades 1, 2 & 4.

On Friday 23 August, we hope that everyone can dress up and wear something that connects them to a book character.  Remember, ‘reading is magic’ and it can take you on a magical adventure.  We  encourage you to bring a book or even borrow a book from our school library to match your dress up character.   We want to see everyone join in this fun. So come on everyone!!
