Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

What a fabulous turn out we had this morning to celebrate and thank our HPS dads, father-like figures and other influential caregivers. The love and admiration of these people from the children was clear to see through the smiles on their faces and through their connections and interactions. We hope all our HPS dads, father-like figures and other influential caregivers have a lovely day on Sunday and get to enjoy a rest, fun family time and maybe even breakfast in bed! Thank you for all that you do to guide, support and provide for your children.

A huge thank you goes to the group of parents and staff who helped to ensure the event not only happened, but was so successful. We really appreciate the time, energy and effort you dedicated to providing this opportunity for our community. We also thank and appreciate the donations and support provided to the event from Bakers Delight, Rosanna and Stephens and Sons Meats, Warringal.

Berry Street Education Training

Education is a human based profession and as such can be complex and intricate in nature.

We all come with differences of opinions,  expectations, perspectives, values,  attitudes and beliefs.

One thing that remains the same for all is the need for connection. Genuine,  respectful,  compassionate connections with other human beings.

The staff's participation in Berry Street Education Model training on Monday focused on relationships and the importance of building them to support the young people we work with in both their learning and well-being, now and for the future.

We learnt about micro moments and having small positive interactions that build connection, respect and compassion to ensure everyone feels valued and that they belong.

Last weekend we had a number of staff attend the grand final footy game of some of our Year 6 students. Congratulations to the team who are now premiers!

Thank you to our parent, Brigitte, for sharing her reflection on the impact that connection and micro moments have on our students and families.

I’m not sure what the collective noun is for a group of gorgeous educators but a ‘posey,   cuddle or belief’ of your teachers showed up to watch and support a bunch of the Grade 6 kids play in a footy grand final on Sunday.
It was so thoughtful and all of the kids loved it and the families were deeply touched. Small gestures of connection matter.

Over the next three weeks before the end of Term 3, let's all focus on creating micro moments that highlight and promote positive connections throughout our community.

New Values Posters

What do you think of our newly updated school values posters? Come in to the office area to see and admire these beautiful images that depict perfectly what Resilience, Responsibility, Respect and Compassion at Heidelberg Primary School means.

We thank Brett Scapin for capturing our values in action.

Off Site Emergency Evacuation Drill

Given our upcoming building works are likely to limit our options for onsite emergency evacuation assembly points, we are going to practice an off site evacuation to De Winton Park, Grove Rd, next week on Wednesday 4th September at 9.50am. Any parents who are available to assist, would be greatly appreciated.

Sun Protection Policy

It's time to dig out those school hat from deep down wherever they may be hiding! Hats will be required whenever outside from next week.

The purpose of the sun protection policy is to support sun protection behaviours at Heidelberg Primary School to minimise risk of health problems from sun overexposure, including skin cancer.

From the 1st of September to 30th of April, all students must wear a sun protective hat that shades the face, neck and ears for all outdoor activities.
