VCE
Health and Human Development and Physical Education are both offered in VCE. Physical Education covers the principles used to analyse human movement from a biophysical perspective. Students use a variety of tools and coaching techniques to analyse movement skills and apply biomechanical and skill-acquisition principles to improve and refine movement in physical activity, sport and exercise. They use practical activities including gym sessions to demonstrate how correctly applying these principles can lead to improved performance outcomes. In unit 4 content shifts focus to explore how to improve performance from a physiological perspective. Students analyse movement skills and fitness requirements and apply relevant training principles and methods to improve performance at various levels (individual, club and elite). The METs incursion help consolidate their understanding of this.
Health and Human Development covers broad understandings of health and wellbeing that reach far beyond the individual. Students learn how important health and wellbeing is to themselves and to families, communities, nations and global society. Students explore the complex interplay of biological, sociocultural and environmental factors that support and improve health and wellbeing and those that put it at risk. The study provides opportunities for students to view health and wellbeing, and development, holistically – across the lifespan and the globe, and through a lens of social equity and justice. In year 11, students participate in the Real care baby program allowing them to have a small experience of parenting a newborn. While year 12 students participate in the Road 2 Zero excursion to consolidate learning.
