Health & Physical Education
Our Health and Physical Education (HPE) Department has been buzzing with activity this term as students across all year levels dive into new areas of learning and development.
Here’s a look at what each year level has been focusing on:
Physical Education Highlights
- Year 7: Target Games
Our Year 7 students have been honing their precision and strategy through a range of Target Games. This unit has helped students develop hand-eye coordination, accuracy, and tactical thinking, setting a strong foundation for more complex game play in the future. - Year 8: Net and Wall Games
Year 8 students have been getting competitive with Net Wall Games, such as volleyball, badminton, and pickleball. This unit emphasises skill development, teamwork, and court awareness, as students learn the intricacies of playing and strategising within a court. - Year 9: Understanding How the Body Moves
Year 9 students have been delving into the mechanics of movement. Through this unit, they are gaining a deeper understanding of how their bodies function during physical activity, exploring concepts like biomechanics, muscle function, and the importance of movement efficiency. Students have had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the school gym during these classes.
Health Education Focus
- Year 7: Puberty
Year 7 students have been navigating the changes and challenges that come with puberty. This unit focuses on helping students understand the physical, emotional, and social transformations they experience during adolescence. - Year 8: Sexuality
The Year 8 health curriculum is centered on understanding sexuality in a respectful and informed way. Discussions around identity, diversity, and healthy relationships are key components as students learn to develop a positive sense of self. - Year 9: Sex and Relationships
For Year 9 students, the focus shifts to deeper discussions about sex and relationships. This unit covers topics like consent, healthy communication, and the importance of making informed decisions.
Active Schools Program Grant Success
We are also thrilled to announce that our school has recently been awarded a grant from the Active Schools Program! This funding will be used to enhance lunchtime opportunities for students by creating more spaces and resources for unstructured, independent play. Our goal is to continue to encourage all students to stay active and engaged during breaks, whether through informal sports games, social activities, or just having fun in a safe and inclusive environment. We look forward to seeing our students embrace these new opportunities to get moving and enjoy their free time.
