Learning Across the

Senior School

Insights from a Major Crime Detective

In Week 4, Loreto Stage 1 and 2 Legal Studies students were extremely fortunate to have a Detective from the Major Crime Investigation Branch of SA Police attend the College and speak with the Legal Studies classes.

Students heard about the role of the police in the South Australian criminal justice process and learned interesting information about our criminal justice system, including the rights of both the accused and victims of crime. The Detective was very generous with his time and knowledge and students were able to ask questions pertaining to their Year 12 Inquiries about various criminal justice topics.

We are very grateful for our visiting Detective sharing his knowledge and expertise. The Legal Studies students are now even more inspired to pursue careers within the criminal justice system.

Subject: Gratitude to 4 Year 12 students and their subject teacher

To Whom It May Concern

My name is Yannoula Michael, and I am the CEO/Chairperson of the charity Families4Families (F4F).

I would like to pass on my gratitude to four year 12 students, Alexandra S, Celeste S, Satvika K and Selena A, who supported F4F a few months ago. They reached out to me, enquiring about any ways that they could help F4F. They explained their religion assignment was about forming connections and advocating for an important lesser-known cause.

Families4Families (F4F) is a South Australian not for profit charity established by people with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and their family and supporters.  F4F is a peer support network providing support by sharing positive coping strategies, lived experiences and creates a sense of belonging in our Local Support Groups. People living with ABI and their family members have designed, operate and continually evaluate and improve their own support network. F4F is run by volunteers who are passionate about improving the life choices for people living with ABI and their family members and/or carers.

The girls were so helpful and not only raised funds but also raised awareness and advocated for our important cause. For example, the girls redesigned our pamphlets and business cards, gathered items that we can use for raffle prizes etc., created social media to share information about F4F and campaigned for the Pantry on Egmont to choose us for their June promotion where for every 'Smashed Pumpkin" sold $1 went to F4F.

Additionally, they raised $350 from selling High Tea Boxes, which encouraged conversations about ABI and F4F over a shared lunch.

We were truly delighted with their achievements and would like to extend our heartfelt thanks. If you could kindly convey our appreciation to their subject teacher and the students, it would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Yannoula Michael
