Period Poverty

Fearne Rosenbauer, Head Girl spoke to our senior students at assembly this week about donating period products for Kickstart for Kids. Girls have been encouraged to bring items to the school to help those who do not have access to feminine hygiene products.

A survey conducted by the South Australian Office of Commissioner for Children and Young people found 1 in 4 girls had missed out on attending school due to not having access to feminine hygiene products and 1 in 2 reported not having access to products or not knowing how to get access to products at school.

Our Own PODCAST – SAXE BLUE – Holly Alp and Laura Fitzgerald

Why is student voice important and will continue to be at Loreto

I would like to inform families of our new Saxe Blue Podcast that was introduced earlier this term by student leaders Holly Alp and Laura Fitzgerald. I am extremely proud of the girls and their leadership and commitment driving this initiative. The girls are building connections across senior school, being positive role models and tackling some important issues.

Evidence from Schoolbox Education

Enabling students to have a voice and see themselves as active participants within their learning journey and wider school life has a direct and tangible connection with their sense of wellbeing.

Research shows allowing students to influence decision-making around the school promotes self-discipline and encourages goal setting, a clear and obvious indicator that each member of the community feels valued and recognised as a leader who knows that they are a crucial part of defining the future for their school. Providing students with choices about how they learn, where they learn and crucially, what they learn, develops collaboration between teachers and students, maintains connectedness and establishes a learning community—making them active citizens.
