Each lunchtime for the past month, with the assistance of our Chess Master, Mr Nathan Coombes, we have been running House Chess here in the Library.  Thank you also to our Chess Captains from Year 12, James Wombwell and Ciaran Behrendt, for being on hand to assist.

The cohort from Years 7 and 8 made up the largest group, it has been wonderful to see so many enthusiastic competitors, thank you all.

This coming Monday the three Grand Finals will be held, Junior, Intermediate and Senior.  All are most welcome to come and line the mezzanine floor upstairs to view the matches.

Please enjoy these pictures to give you an idea of House Chess here in the Library.

Homelessness Week was held from August 3-9.

Homelessness Australia is the national peak body for homelessness in Australia.  They provide systemic advocacy for the homeless section and work to strengthen the impact of homelessness services.  They work with a large network of organisations and people with lived experience to provide a unified voice when to come to preventing and responding to homelessness.

THEIR VISION; A future where everyone has a safe home and the support they need to thrive.

THEIR MISSION; To influence policy and practice to reduce the incidence and impact of homelessness across Australia.

Our wonderful teacher, Mrs Alison Read, instigated an initiative here to assist in the making of 60,000 origami/paper houses to illustrate the number of public housing dwelling needed here in Victoria.  We have added these to our display board here in the Library, along with some short and sharp facts regarding the homelessness here in Victoria.

With our “Tinnies for Vinnies” initiative happening now, it is a good time to reflect on all that we have, and all that we can do to truly see and help those who are struggling each and every day with incredibly difficult situations.
