Dubbo Wether Expo

From Mrs Marg Aldersey, Agriculture Faculty

The Kinross Wolaroi School Sheep Team consisting of five Year 10 students and two Year 9 students recently competed at the Dubbo Wether Expo.  Sixty-eight high schools across NSW were part of the competition.

Participating schools each received 6 wethers (provided by Egelabra) to raise over a six-month period. The wethers are then returned to Dubbo and students compete with them across several events. This is a unique opportunity for students to be involved in preparing sheep for showing and sale.  The students attended several workshops including a careers panel, technology talks and Fletchers International Exports to learn how sheep are processed and sold for market.

A special thank you goes to Riverina Stockfeed for donating finisher pellets and to East Coast Stockfeeds for donating a grain mix for the wethers to eat. Also thank to our Ag Faculty Assistant Mr Frank Weymouth who ensured the sheep were well fed and cared for.

It was lovely to catch up with some Kinross families who came to see the team during the expo.

Kinross Wolaroi students awarded first place in the 2026 'Waste 2 Art' Regional Showcase

Congratulations to our talented Year 11 Art students Eve Napier and Sophie Richmond, both category winners of the 2026 Waste 2 Art Regional Showcase

Their outstanding works were selected from local Waste 2 Art competitions across the NetWaste region. Inspired by the 2026 theme, Shrink Your Footprint, their artworks demonstrate the incredible potential of materials that might otherwise be considered waste, while encouraging us to think differently about reuse, recycling and sustainability.

Eve Napier was awarded first place in the Secondary School 3D category for her sculpture, ‘Hope Walking’ and Sophie Richmond, first place for the Cutest on Show category, for her piece, Flossy the Eco Monkey’

The 2026 Waste 2 Art Regional Showcase is now on display at the Albert Kersten Mining & Minerals Museum (GeoCentre), Broken Hill, until 5 September 2026.
