Principal News

 Welcome to Term 3

It is hard to believe that we are already in Term 3. I am thrilled to now be the Substantive Principal of this wonderful school (after two terms in the Acting Principal role). This school has so much to offer our students and their families and is staffed  by a team of dedicated and skillful teachers, education suppport staff and our hardworking business manager.

This term is only 9 weeks long; and with so much going on, it is bound to fly. Some

special events to make note of this term are as follows (please check the dates on our Important Dates page and on Xuno:

  • Somers Camp
  • Book Week
  • Athletics (school based and Echuca)
  • Father's Day Breakfast
  • Whole School Production

End of Term 2 Reports and PT Interviews

By now all families will have had a chance to read their child/ren's mid- year report. Thank you to those families who attended the parent-teacher conferences at the end of last term. A reminder that families are most welcome to make an appointment to discuss their child's progress or any other matters at any time throughtout the school year. The most efficient way to do this is to message the teacher/s concerned via Xuno or to ring the office to arrange a suitable time.

NAPLAN- by now all families of students who participated in the series of NAPLAN tests for Year 3 and Year 5 students, should have received their NAPLAN results/reports. These were sent home in sealed envelopes. Please contact the school if you wish to discuss or have any questions about the NAPLAN results and reports.

End of Term Celebration

A special thank you to Ned Lees and Georgia James for their amazing efforts to cook over 80 parmis for our end of Term 2 lunch. The parmis and chips were a real hit with students and staff and are sure to be on the menu again in the future.

Also a really big shout out to our hard working Parents & Friends committee who ran a movie night and sausage sizzle on the last Thursday of term. Those students who attended had a fanstastic time watching a movie on the big screen.

Parents & Friends require volunteers to help at our major fundraising event as part of the Elmore Field Days. Please see the Parents & Friends page on this newsletter to see how you can help us raise funds for our school.

SSG Meetings

Those families who have SSG meetings will have received a notification via Xuno and asked to arrange a suitable time to attend a meeting with their child's teacher, Jackie Newth (our Wellbeing Teacher) and myself. These termly meetings provide us with the opportunity to review learning and wellbeing goals, find out about any specialist services that are occurring and ensure that we are meeting the individual needs of your child. If you have not made a time to attend please do so and if you are unable to attend, please let us know as we do schedule classroom teachers to be out of the classroom during these interviews.

Mural

Our school is extremely fortunate to have been gifted a donation to cover the cost of having a large colourful wall mural painted by the talented Zowie Crump who operates under the name of The Art of Zowie. Zowie has completed many murals in schools, preschools and day care centres and they are always bright and colourful (you can find examples of her work on Instagram and Facebook). Zowie has designed a mural that represents farming and life in and around Lockington.  A huge thank you to Northern Constructions for their generous donation of funds so that we can complete this mural. The mural is to be painted on the brick wall (under the windows) outside the Indonesian room (facing the flag poles). The image below is not our mural, but an example of Zowie's works.

We are after a volunteer or two to roll on a layer of undercoat/primer before our painting day. We have the paint, roller (with an extension stick) and tray ready to go. This work would need to be completed before Monday September 8th. Please contact the office if you are able to help.

 Book Week  2025

Children's Book Week is from August 16th to August 23rd. To celebrate this day we will host a special day on Friday August 22nd. The theme for this year is Book An Adventure.

We invite all students (and staff) to come along dressed as a character from a book, it is great if you have a copy of the book to bring along too, so we can see the stories that our characters are from.

We will host a parade from 9am (and will be joined by the Lockington Pre-School) and then hold our Friday assembly (please note there will not be an assembly in the afternoon on this day).  Parents and friends are most welcome to come along to watch the parade and stay for our assembly.

During the middle session of the day our students will participate in a range of literacy and art activities based around book week.

School Council

Our first School Council meeting for Term 3 is on Tuesday August 19th and this will be an in person meeting held at the school at 6pm. Please send an apology prior to this meeting if you are unable to attend to ensure that we have a quorum at the meeting.

Special Mentions

How wonderful it was to have some very special visitors in my office earlier this week! The students from 1/2A were learning about some important places around our school and they happened to call in to see me in the office. I am sure you can tell by the look on their faces that they were very excited to be there.

I was gifted this amazing penguin made by Prep student, Oscar, last week. Oscar crafted this penguin during his free time last Friday and it now takes pride of place in my office. Thanks, Oscar, it makes me smile every time I look at it!

That is all for this week, Lisa Duffy.
