Exploring Pathways and Career Options

Mr Paul MacCallum, Pathways

Cairns Careers Expo

Year 10 students enjoyed the opportunity in August to visit the Cairns Careers Expo. Held in Cairns each year, the event is organised by the Business Liaison Association (BLA) of Cairns. Events like these are helpful to students as they explore pathway, training and employment opportunities. We acknowledge the commitment to youth by the Business Liaison Association (BLA) of Cairns who, each year, organise and offer a variety of events to assist students in their career development exploration.

Shed Fab Atherton - Industry Tour

A big thank you goes out to Murray and Tracey Lammert from ShedFab in Atherton. Murray and Tracey teamed up with Amanda Bulow from Awesome Women in

Construction to show interested students through their manufacturing facility in Atherton. Specialising in sheds and fabrication, ShedFab has become a reputable supplier of high-quality fabricated steel for a variety of purposes, including sheds, farm buildings, and commercial and industrial structures. Interested Year 10 students took the opportunity to check out the day-to-day operations of the busy steel fabrication workshop.  Students (and staff) were amazed by the use, and different types, of technology-based machines spread throughout the large workshop interior. Murray was quick to add that jobs that used to take up to 5 – 6 hours can now be done in half an hour, increasing productivity and turnover.

Early Offer Programs – University Applications

Year 12 students are reminded to consider early offer applications for 2026 courses. Keep in mind that rules, regulations and opening/closing dates differ from university to university. Students are expected to do their own research and contact universities themselves. Early Offer Programs allow Year 12 students to apply for (and hopefully receive) a conditional or unconditional offer for a university course before receiving their final Year 12 results. Offers are typically based on Year 11 academic performance and school recommendations. Students must apply for these schemes through their university's specific application process or through a centralised system like QTAC. As I say, the process differs across universities.
