CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

With the celebrations of Year 12 Assembly and the Valedictorian evening coming to a close, the Class of 2025 turned our attention to the rapidly approaching exam period.

Excluding a few language students, the period began for most with the all-important English exam, which countless hours of timed writing sessions, revision lectures, re-reading Trevor Noah and watching Sunset Boulevard numerous times had been poured into. Walking out of the 3-hour exam was a relief for many, as the longest exam was now out the way.

However, there was no let up as many students had their next exam only a day or two after. Being a cohort of 445 students, there are many different ways in which students have prepared for exams: studying non-stop, staying back for hours after school and even taking the occasional rest day to reset. Regardless of how students have been approaching their exams, the common theme among all has been an incredible rise in comradery and community.

It has been awesome to see so many students studying together, staying back at school and making trips to the library throughout this period and if there are any positives to take out of these stressful times, it is that these exams have undoubtedly brought students closer together and helped to form new friendships and connections.

The bittersweet feeling of exams and school finishing up is one that makes the Class of 2025 a little bit unsure of how to feel. For the first time since the Summer of 2019, there will be no tests to prepare for, no early morning wake-ups, no holiday homework to worry about during our break and no more school uniform.

It is a little bit scary, yet so exciting at the same time to think about, as we enter a completely new phase of our lives.

From the Class of 2025, thank you McKinnon for being our home for the last six years, and to the students, congratulations on completing school and best of luck for your next chapter, wherever it may take you!

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

It’s hard to imagine that we are halfway through Term 4, everything must come to an end.

Year 9 is a year that changes you from junior school to senior and the rush of exams is more evident than ever. As our first round of exams come up it’s important to remind yourself, yes, it’s stressful and yes, it’s hard. I’ve learnt the art of balancing, studying, friends and extracurricular activities.

However, though exams and stress approaches, so does the end of East Campus. My two years at East Campus are coming to an end, and I’ll surely miss it. All the lunchtime clubs and activities are going to be missed dearly and the overall vibe and sense of being at East Campus will be changed. East Campus’s vibe is completely different to McKinnon Road Campus, and I sometimes wonder how I’ll adjust back.

Speaking of coming to an end, so does this amazing honour of being Junior Deputy School Captain. I thank all the staff and other captains that have helped me learn and grow throughout this amazing experience.

Thank you all.
