Term 2 has been both exciting and enjoyable for the Ada Years, with a variety of engaging events and opportunities for students in Years 10 to 12.
For our Year 12s, highlights included the much-anticipated school formal in Week 3, where the cohort enjoyed a night of dancing, delicious food, and celebration with friends. This term also marked their final high school Athletics Day, with the iconic Kath and Kim group winning the prize for best costume. Finally, to conclude their term two, the year 12s had the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of fun, going bowling locally at The Keys in Preston.
Year 11s also had a vibrant and activity-filled term. They visited Swinburne University on an excursion, alongside The Year 11 biology students taking a trip to the zoo to observe homeostasis in animals as part of their studies, while VCE Drama students were treated to a performance of Beetlejuice: The Musical in Week 8. To round off the term, the Year 11 cohort headed to the cinemas in Week 10 to watch the new Karate Kid movie together.
Overall, Term 2 has been a fantastic blend of learning, fun, and community spirit. After a well-deserved break, we’re ready to jump into Term 3 with energy and enthusiasm!

It has been a fast-paced term for the Year 11's marked by several excursions and key moments. The physics crew got to travel to the synchrotron, which was an amazing opportunity to explore the one-of-a-kind facility. During week 8, Cohort 2026 went on an excursion to Swinburne University, where they got to experience a day at university with workshops such as a mock court or space related activities. On top of that, during week 9, 69 students took their very first GAT. This was followed by trips to The University of Melbourne and Preston Market for Chemistry and VCD students. To wrap up the end of term, cohort 2026 visited Hoyts to watch Karate Kid: legends. It brought everyone together and was a very fun event. Now we are all ready for Term 3!

This past Term has been an exciting one for Cohort 2027 with a big focus on helping us explore what our futures could look like. In week 4 we went to the careers show at the Melbourne Showgrounds. On the day we were able to look around different stalls from tertiary education centres as well as prospective workplaces and get an idea of what it would be like to pursue those. Lots of the year level has also gone off to do work experience this term with students spending a week experiencing industries such as photography, retail, graphic design, education, and much more.

So far, Term 2 has been a fantastic experience! We've had a range of exciting activities and excursions, including our Year 9 Leadership Day. The day was packed with fun and challenging activities designed to strengthen our teamwork and leadership skills. Some highlights included wheelchair basketball, a spaghetti and marshmallow tower challenge, and a fast-paced leadership race.
In Week 6, our Mentor Leaders and Bandler Parks Leaders attended a full-day leadership workshop. The event was a great opportunity to connect with students from other schools and hear from inspiring guest speakers who shared valuable lessons about resilience and overcoming challenges.
Looking ahead, we’re excited for the Subject Expo and course selection next term, especially with the opportunity to begin early start VCE in Year 10. We’re also looking forward to our Morrisby interviews, where we’ll explore career pathways and plan for the future. Overall, it’s been an amazing term filled with growth, learning, and memorable experiences. We can’t wait to see what next term brings!

This term the year eights had had many opportunities to participate in many interschool sports including tennis, netball, football, badminton and baseball. In the explore subjects the food studies students went to Cere’s to learn about sustainable food study and the engineering students have had an incursion to learn TinkerCAD to apply their skills to their term-based skills. On the 22nd of May the year eights had their values day, this day was amazing because we got to experience so many fun activities and learn skills along the way, like working as a team to keep a giant inflatable globe from touching the ground, and helping out other people while playing laser tag as a class in the stadium.
In addition, Cohort 2030 have also represented the school in tennis, soccer, netball and football, students have done activities outside of class including a toolbox incursion as part of their values day and a brainstorm presentation where students learnt about cyber-safety.
We would like to congratulate all the students who participated in the soiree and wish everyone a lovely holiday.

The first half of the year has been busy, exciting, and promising for all members of the Preston High School Debate Club. As the inter-school debating season draws to a close, it has proven to be a memorable experience full of achievements. Students from Year 9 and above have participated with great enthusiasm and have represented our school to the highest standard. A special shoutout goes to our C Grade team, who remain undefeated this season!
In addition to debating, there have been numerous public speaking tournaments and strong participation in the Parliament Prize; a 90-second speech competition, in which students submit speeches based on a topic they would champion as a Member of Parliament. Results for this competition will be announced in late July, but there’s much more to look forward to.
Next term will feature Junior Debating for our Year 7 and 8 students, as well as the House Debating competition, where teams from different houses will battle it out for House Points!
There are always new events emerging to look out for and a welcoming community of enthusiasts at all skill levels. Everyone interested, curious, or just wanting to hang out is warmly invited to join our weekly meetings on Wednesday in H1.
We wish everyone a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing many more of you next term!
We're holding a Great Book Swap to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) in Term 3 Week 5 to provide books and learning resources to children living in remote Communities across Australia.
The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, learn more about Indigenous languages and culture, and raise funds for a great cause. This term and next, students can donate books for our Book Swap at our drop off boxes outside H3 or the Library.
Alternatively, you can show your support by making a donation to our Great Book Swap page and sharing it with your friends, family and community!

Students from across all year levels participated in the House Talent Show auditions this term in week 7 and 8. It was wonderful to see so many talents being exhibited and congratulations to all the students that had the confidence to go up and show their wonderful talents (such as leaf music). The House Talent Show will take place in the end of term assembly where the judges will decide who will win.
Next term is House Debating where students can debate on a certain topic, so time to get excited for that and practice your speaking voices!
Our school canteen has a new winter menu, if you'd like to check it out ahead of time please see the attachment below.
Remember, students are not allowed to use their mobile phones during the school day and therefore cannot use them for tap and go payment. They will need to use their physical bank card or cash to make purchases.
