It's hard to believe that we are almost at the end of term 2! What a busy, exciting and chilly term it has been! Our building project is almost finished and we will have our first students in transition and secondary start in the pool this week. There will be further updates about the pool program in term 3 as we gradually commence the swimming programs.
This term has seen students accessing many learning opportunities through their daily programs as well as incursions from the Fire Brigade (Primary 1), and excursions to We Rock the Spectrum (Primary 2) and Blackwood Camp (Transition students). Christine, Lauren and I have been reading through student Semester 1 reports and it is really great to read about the development students have made towards their learning goals over the first half of the year. We look forward to seeing continued growth for all of our students during the rest of the year. Following these reports which you will receive at the end of this week, teachers will write the Semester 2 IEP's and send these home early in term 3.
I hope that the holidays provide a welcome break from school routines for all and look forward to seeing all students and families at the start of term 3.
The past couple of weeks has seen many unwell students and staff, resulting in high levels of illness amongst staff. This has a big impact on our ability to staff all of our classrooms and learning programs. Please keep your child home if they are displaying cough, cold, flu symptoms as well as gastro type symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhoea to help keep everyone in our Croydon SDS community safe and well.
I had the pleasure of attending the second part of the transition camp to Blackwood from Wednesday to Friday. Well rugged up, 8 students and 5 staff came ready for fun and adventure at the camp. We were proud of our students who challenged themselves to try new things and work as a member of a team to complete the activities. The focus of the camp was exploring our emotions as they participated in activities including archery, low ropes course, team games, bush cooking and alphabet dig. Our students identified that they felt excited, happy, frustrated, hungry, anxious, proud, scared, curious and proud.
Students enjoyed thinking about the activities they had most enjoyed and shared them with us:
Declan - team games
Xavier - low ropes
Sara - bush cooking
Ashley - bush cooking
Riley - archery
Sarah M - bush cooking
Summer - low ropes
Maddi - bush cooking
Congratulations to all of our students on your participation and representing Croydon SDS so well. A big thank you to our wonderful staff who supported our students to experience success at camp!
