Principal's message
Leadership presentation
Last Thursday we acknowledged the new SRC members, Sports House Captains and Ecokids by presenting them with their badges. Congratulations to all our students, we know you will be wonderful representatives.
Precious things
We have noticed an increase in the number of very precious, or special toys and belongings coming to school, including jewellery. Please keep these at home as they can become lost or broken. If a teacher does notice something has been brought in they will keep it on their desk for the duration of the day and send it home at the end with a request to be kept at home.
Attendance
During each term, the Learning Support Team look at student attendance, including identifying individual students who have had a large number of absences, reasons for being away and the number of unexplained absences.
Earlier this week individual notes were generated to remind parents of absences that have occurred this term where no reason was given. Those notes need to be completed and returned to school, otherwise the absence is recorded as 'unjustified'. Please note that the NSW Department of Education Attendance Policy states that, "Parents are required to explain the absences of their children from school promptly and within seven days to the school. An explanation for absence must be provided to the school within 7 days of the first day of any period of absence."
We noticed that there was a significant number of students who were away for a full day for a dentist appointment. Please organise appointments to occur before or after school, or ideally during the school holidays. We understand that at times it may be an emergency and the only time available is in the middle of the day, however students should only be off school grounds for the duration of the appointment.
Feeling safe at our school
This term, you will notice new posters around the school that aim to help support a safe and respectful culture at our school.
These posters are part of an initiative to remind everybody to treat our hard-working school staff with kindness and respect. Every school community around the state is very different. While most schools are respectful and harmonious, violence and unsafe behaviour in any form is not acceptable in schools. School staff and students have the right to learn and work in safe and respectful learning environments.
With that in mind, I encourage you to join everyone at our school in getting behind this important work to make a positive change.
We value our partnerships with you to support our students to learn, grow, and belong. It is up to us – the school and the parent-body - to be good respectful role models to our students. Together, we can create a safe and harmonious environment for our students and staff.
I hope you will support this initiative. What do you need to do? It is easy: Please treat our students and staff with kindness and respect, at all times. We are here to help you.
I invite you to contact me if you have any questions.
