SUPER SWIM TEAM EFFORTS

It was a fantastic day of individual and team efforts at Oakleigh Pool on Monday this week.  Our Swim team of 30 students did themselves proud and gave it their best for each of their events, despite having a few team members a little weary from a very laaaatttteeee T.Swift concert bedtime on Saturday or Sunday night!

Well done to all Swim team members and a special congratulations goes to these swimmers who placed 1st or 2nd in their respective events and will now progress to the next level; Beachside Division on Friday 8th March:

12/13 Girls 4x50m Freestyle relay: 2nd -  Rose W, Isla M, Alannah M, Maisy H.

12/13 Boys 4x50m Freestyle relay: 2nd - Lachie H, Noah D, Angus F, Josh T.

11 Girls Breaststroke: 2nd - Amy W

12/13 Boys Breaststroke: 1st - Lachie H. (new Dendy record!)

FAST-4 Dendy Tennis UPDATE

Tennis players do usually enjoy a nice warm day, with some glorious sunshine and warmth, but today was certainly pushing the limits!  Phew - it was a hot one!   We’d like to congratulate Ivy C (Yr 6), Emersyn O (Yr 6), Finlay D (Yr 6) and Abel C (Yr 6) for representing our school so well against a number of other quality Dendy tennis players.  From all reports, all four players displayed some quality tennis over the FAST-4 round robin tournament, coming away with both wins and losses. Emersyn did extremely well, making it to the semi finals. Well done!

A huge thank you also goes to their families that supported the players in travel and supervision over the day at the Caulfield Recreation Tennis courts.

INTER-HOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

Whole School @

GR Bricker Reserve, Moorabbin

We now only have 3 weeks until our very first 2024 whole school sporting event!  On Friday 22nd of March all students from Prep to Year 6 students will participate in our Whole School Athletics carnival.  Every year level will travel by bus to GR Bricker Reserve in Moorabbin where they’ll participate in a variety of track and field events.  All students are encouraged to dress in their St. Finbar’s House colours, with House points awarded for student’s athletic efforts over the day.

Prep to Year 2 students will participate in a variety of formal and novelty athletics events over their half-day carnival, whilst our Year 3-6 students participate in numerous track and field events over the whole day.

This Wednesday all families should have received an Operoo permission email relevant to your child/ren’s carnival.  This permission email outlines all relevant event details, including a section requesting parent helpers for each carnival.  We really value the support of our amazing parents at our sporting carnivals,  so please take a look at the Parent Helper link in the Operoo and if you are able to help for part of the day, please add your details within these links.

State Trials Nomination process for 2024.

Please contact Tania Thompson by this Monday.

Each year, extremely talented sporting students have the opportunity to trial for a place in a School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic State team and participate in annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships. These trials are strictly for senior students (Year 5 or 6) currently competing at an ELITE LEVEL in their chosen sport. An example of this for AFL football would be that they have won or come Runner-Up their League (SMJFL) Best and Fairest for 12 year olds. Having come Best and Fairest at club level is not suffice.

Please note that participation in SSV team Vic state teams is self-funded, so students will be required to pay costs of administration levies, uniform, flights, accommodation and meals(approx $3000+). Students who are selected must be available to participate in a series of SSV trials if successful at each level, as outlined below -

* Beachside Division trials > Southern Metropolitan trials > SSV trials/camp.

The various sporting opportunities on offer and relevant application & trial dates are all advertised on the SSV website ‘Team Vic’ section.

To NOMINATE, parents (not students) must first:

  • Seek approval from the Sport Coordinator (Tania Thompson) including evidence of achievement at an elite level. St. Finbar’s requests a letter or email written by the child’s coach outlining the student’s outstanding skill level and achievements. We encourage only students of a Year 5 or Year 6 level to consider these trials if they fall into this elite sports category. This must be to the Sport Coordinator at least 3 weeks before the nomination date closes for this sport.

All information can be found via this website link: https://www.ssv.vic.edu.au/team-vic

If approved by the Principal & Sports Coordinator for nomination, parents then:

  • Complete online nomination form-Submit $ payment of a non-refundable payment
